I have lost about 35 miles to a tank as the temp outside is around 0 to 3 degrees so I am now getting about 500 to a tank (remapped too)

60 - 70 is all good but 6th gear makes me want to drive at 80!!!!!! probably not great for the MPG, whats the magic number on the Rev counter for best fuel consuption?

400 miles so far to my 45ltr tank in the Ibiza :)

Got 1/4 tank left which the car reckons it will get 150 miles... doubtful now i'm back to town driving! :D

Averaged 57.6mpg on those 400 miles!

some may say lala land....
i sit at 80; the odd blast at 95 for couple of miles to stave boredom; every fri eve for 140miles and always get approx 46/47mpg with no worries and about 530 a tankful.
redlight to redlight on tesco best (points and cheapest and plenty about)

I find 4th gear anywhere from 40-65 to be stupidly economical whilst cruising, bit confusing as at 60mph it averages way over 50, rarely dropping below 48/49 and sits at about 2700 rpm - but 5th or 6th gear at lower revs at 60-80mph struggle to get over 50 unless doing so for a long journey (ie longer than 15 miles on the motorway)

as for miles per tank, 500 is around average which includes an odd blast now and then - 550+ has been seen when money is tight ;). Thats on both Vpower and 'normal' diesel from tesco/esso/wherever. However, Vpower seems to be more smooth in the power delivery from low revs and also as soon as I fill up it reads over 500 miles in the tank, but on normal diesel it is only 400-430

That's interesting. I'm usually in 5th by about 45mph. What's it pulling in 4th at 65?? Sure 6th would be more economic.

I was listening in on some blokes talking about one of the shell garages which had shut down near us just recently when i was in the pub the other night. And they where saying that there is summer fuel and winter fuel. I don'e know what the differences are between these or even if its true. But it could explain why my mpg dropped so much in the winter.
Im running on v power and millers this week and its not doing any better but the power delivery is much smoother

I think I read somewhere that winter fuel has an added anti-waxing agent to make the fuel more fluid in low temperatures if that makes sense?

It is true that diesel fuel has a seasonal blend to ensure the wax doesnt crystallize during the winter periods.

This can be avoided using serveral methods.

a) Create a new blend of diesel, and mix it with a normal summer diesel to reduce the cloud point. This way reduces the power and economy, and is expensive for fuel companies.

b) Use a wax-modifying additive to stop the wax from crystallizing.

This is why I use Millers Diesel Sport 4 in winter to increase the cetane number which improves low-temp combustion, i've filled up yesterday without DPS4 using Shell Extra and I can't believe how rough my engine is in a morning now.

52 Plate toledo 110 and does between 627 & 649 per tank full. Thats from brim to light and over long drives between Nottinghamshire and Aberdeenshire. Average speed according to comp' is 62 for the whole journey of 487 miles, use cheapest diesel available and no problems or difference in performace whatever the fuel brand.
