How do you tell if an exhaust is original?

As you see below my 1.4 is 7 years old now

In November 2005 I paid £290 to have the exhaust replaced - frontpipe which includes the cat and rear section.

Took the car in for tyres a few weeks back and the bloke there [who I trust because he showed me] was adamant that the front section was the original Seat part!

The rear section is still really shiny and the front section is rusted to f*!k and is blowing around the flexi section.

I dug out an old credit card statement which proves I bought it and the date etc.

My big problem is how do I proove that the old section is really the original Seat part? Are there any marking or tell tale signs on it????? I need to appear like I know something about cars when I go to the place on Saturday.

Maybe they replaced it with an orginal seat part? And not a 3rd party part?

Nope!

I'm getting really hacked off with the whole thing now.

Just gonna go to court ... three places have told me that it is the original and he is the only person who reckons it is a replacement part!

So I got a few quotes together, filled out the paperwork to go to the small claims court and have requested that the replacement section be done by my local main stealer at the grand cost of £750!

That should p!$$ him off.

im afraid you cant prove it wasnt replaced and its more than a year old now, you wont stand much chance in a small claims court without concrete evidence which yours isnt,

I have to differ on this.

A warranty only means that the manufacturer has to replace the part within 12 months - ie. dispense the fitter of any fault.

However, under your consumer rights a part has to be 'fit for purpose' and in this case an exhaust should last more than 15 months and 20,000 miles!

So according to my solicitor mate I have a very good case, and as standing in court and swearing that you are telling the truth means that if one of us is telling a different story then one of us is committing purgery and as I know that is not me I have nowt to worry about.

I have 2 written reports from independant engineers stating the front section is the original Seat part.

I think this is more than enough proof to sort this mess out.
