Hi everyone,

the wing mirror on my TDi130 has been damaged. If you sit in the driver's seat and look at the driver's mirror, the black plastic trim around the outside edge as you look at the mirror is damaged. The body coloured painted bit of the mirror housing is fine. I'd like to swap the body coloured painted bit over to a new mirror housing to save the cost of spray painting the new housing.

The dealer is saying it can't be done. I would have thought it can but haven't had a chance to look at taking the mirror apart.

Anyone done this or know if it can be done? Anyone got a picture of the mirror housing in bits, or an exploded view diagram from a manual or something showing all the bits?

Cheers!
Alex.

The dealer is trying to get you to spend whatever stupid amount on a new cover also. I am definitely sure that the mirror casing comes off the oblong shape mirrors, because I have seen it done, strangely by the dealer! If you have the oval type mirror, I can't see why it would be any different. Someone will post on here soon how to remove it, I am sure.

Wing mirrors come in 3 parts
i) the mirror housing which is the black bit and fits onto the side of the car
ii) the mirror cap which in your case is painted, this is removable / swappable
iii) the mirror glass

It sounds to me the housing is damaged in your case, this is the most expensive bit, if your mirrors are electric it contains the motor and electrics. The cap is very cheap, though does cost some to have sprayed.

Yep if it is the tear drop shape mirror as mine is then The back painted part just clips on and can be removed! My dealer sold me this part for £9
So looks like your dealer is on the rob!

Unfortunately the part you describe as broken costs around £70!!! :(

It is the teardrop shaped one, and is electric - they told me that you had to order it with all the elec gubbins etc.

Just need to convince them to swap the painted bits over.

Cheers for the replies guys!

Its easy to fit mate! Just buy the mirror and do it yourself! I can talk you through it if you need a brief guide! SEAT wanted another £70 to fit it so I told them I would manage!
