Hi everyone,

I have spent about 2 days reading on here and other forums about the infamous N249 valve.

Basciallt what happened was the EML came on and I got the car scanned by a local garage.

This fault code came up
17608 - Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249): Mechanical Malfunction

aswell as one about the secondary air intake and an "implausable signal" from engine speed sensor.

I have replaced the N249 valve as did not want to go the bypass route.

When the codes were cleared and then it was scanned again...it still came up with the
code
17608 - Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249): Mechanical Malfunction

Code cleared again and didnt come back, and so far the EML light has stayed off fingers crossed.

A check has been made for vacuum leaks and none found so far (a brief check tho).

However from reading about this sometimes this code can be thrown up by a faulty DV?
I'm still running the stock one at the moment, and you can hear it hissing as the turbo spools up, is it possible that this could be causing the problem?

How much do standard stock DV cost?

I am considering going the forge 007P route, but want to iron out any potential faults first if a stock DV is cheap.

My car is a 2001 180 leon cupra with engine code AUQ.

Anything else I can check?

any help as allways greatly appreciated

I expect the noise you can hear is the turbo spooling up not the dump valve hissing?

I have no idea how much a standard valve is new but JamesW has one for sale in the classifieds section ;)

replaced the Recirc valve today with a nice shiny black forge 007p, boosts much better. Tested my old stock recirc valve and it was sh*t not holding any vacuum. ah well all good now!

was going to suggest getting the forge anyway matey. the diverter valve is essential for holding boost and keeping the car running properly. i have a forge one and once a year or so give it a wee service, keeps the car happy. kit availble from forge. thats what i do. glad to hear about the d.v sorting the problem.
