HELP !!! Side skirt jacking point >>>

PLATINUM LCR

Guest
Hi all.... :help:

I have removed one of the covers in the side skirt to access the jacking point today when I had a flat tyre and needed to change a wheel.....

Doing that was easy but when it came to trying to replace the cover I tried and tried again....... but could I get the bitch to fit flush ??...... Could I F**K !! :censored:

I am no expert when it comes to car maintenance but I consider this to be a basic task so I thought I would be able to manage but and I cant for the life of me get the tricky little bas***d to fit back on.

Has anyine got any tips on how to go about this before I rip the f**king side skirts off the car >?>? [:@]

Thanks

I had mine off my cupra and they are a tw*t to get back on but you just have to perservere and hit it really hard with the heel of your hand m8.

I had the same problem - I noticed that the rubber/plastic like lip that needs to slot in doesnt line up properly :censored:

So I bent it back in place with a pair of pliers then when pushing it back in made sure it was lined up with a thin screwdriver

The rear towbar cover is even more fun as I found out today when I got stuck in the snow !!! [:@]

Hope this helps?

i'm sure there was a guide on here with pics somewhere, but can't find it atm.

You need to use a flat headed screwdriver, and from underneath the car you need to lever the sideskirt down and outwards of the car - do this and then hit the cover back on quite hard. Then remove the screwdriver from between skirt/car and you'll be done :)

Once you've done 1, you'll be a god at them all from then on :D

dont feel to bad fella, im onto my 3rd or 4th front driverside cover now, the cord is too long and when it comes off while driving it brakes or shatters the cover anyway, ive resorted to buying a replacement and spraying it myself (less than a tenner opposed to 35+ a time) im using a cable tie as well rather than the long cord.

Thanks all for the tips.... It seems that once my rage had died down and I gave it some thought it was relatively easy to do.

One good hard smack and the little bas***d fit nicely back into place.

Jobs a good un !!

The technique I use which seems to work is locate one of the 2 tabs at the back with a flat screwdriver and push the screwdriver up until it clicks and then do the same with the second lug, It saves all that backing about

Took me longer to put them back on than it did to change the pads, but after a few :censored: words i took me 2 secs a side when i work out how.
As pabs says in his reply you will kick your self when you do it as to how easy it is.

I used glue :D

Came off easy enough (infact it fell off on its own on the motorway) but couldnt get it back on. Can still pull it off now if I have to, but don't ever intend to.

Jacking Points

Beware the sole use of standard jacking points/jack especially at the rear, for lifting the car - my LCR rolled off the rear point!

Luckily no great damage done as the wheel was still on the car, but it still nipped the paintwork on the skirt
I am very careful - it`s many a year since I had a similar experience - and was shocked by the incident, as the potential for damage/ injury is severe!!:headhurt:

The plastic skirt can intefer with the correct location of the jack, and catch you unaware - so do take care and double check before you lift!

As for the covers - well for me, a touch of grease, and the application of a heavy blunt object - namely,my fist! - has always done the trick:)
