Help please! Air Con Compressor rattling and not engaging.

Hi guys,

I'm after some advice and knowledge from someone who has a past experience of this fault!

I've just recently noticed that my air con compressor has started to rattle. I've had it fully degassed, recharged and tested. Testing found that the A/C wasn't even engaging. From researching on Google, it seems that the clutch pulley has a tendency to wear down.

Has anyone else had this fault and was it cheap/easy to fix? Don't want to have to get completely new compressor as that would be pretty expensive!:cry::cry:

Thanks :)

It seems the clutch as broken away from the springs and has rattled that much that it has destroyed all the splines. All that swarf is mashed up splines from the clutch. Luckily though the shaft is fine after it's been cleaned up and a replacement clutch has been ordered for £20.99 easy fix in the end and hopefully my air con will be working once it's fitted!

Hi guys, I found the same issue on my other half's 2010 Leon FR yesterday - heard a large bang (thought I'd driven over a tree branch tbh), pulled over at the next convenient place to have a quick check of the underneath and found the AC compressor clutch sticking out of the bottom of the plastic undertray where it had punched a hole...

I'm going to try and replace it too - can I please get some assistance on where you bought yours from at that price? Any specific guidance on how to fit too? I'm fairly good with mechanics, but haven't messed about with air con before.

Thanks in advance!
