So the story is, I sent my 2017 Cupra 290 in for its regular service last week. The car has done 55,000KM so this was a Major Service as Seat call it so fluids, filters, spark plugs etc. Once they were delivering the car back to my house, I was told that when they opened the coolant expansion tank, coolant bubbled up out of it and overflowed. It looks like the system was under pressure.
They topped up the coolant and said keep an eye on it. Once I had a proper look at the service sheet though they had it marked down as "Coolant Boiling Up. Head Gasket Problem". Now in the 6 months I've had the car I have never had a single issue with it, it has never overheated or been low for coolant ever. Theres no smoke out the exhaust and the oil cap is spotless, no mayo build up. Coolant looks clean too, doesnt look like there was oil mixed in it.
Has anyone had a similar issue? I really cant see how this is head gasket related, the work will be covered by warranty but I really dont want them stripping the engine if it doesnt need to be done but if it is the head gasket I dont want to risk blowning it completely and destroying the engine. Any advice is welcome.

If the car is still in warranty, I'd have thought it would be covered.

I'm surprised they didn't look further into the issue if it is under warranty.

Do you notice anything different whilst driving? The only issue I had with my 290 was the water pump leaking which caused coolant leaking.

Are these guys completely stupid ????
Any coolant tank opened when hot will bubble up and overflow - the system is always under pressure when hot.
It even warns you about this in the handbook

I would get them to look at the problem that they themselves reported whilst it's under warranty.

If you open the cap slowly when it's hot you will hear a release of pressure and the level should stay the same if the engine is off. You would like to presume a trained seat technician should know how to check a coolant level.... but I suppose you never know.

Just call them up and say what it says on the paperwork and ask them to look at it

Dropped it in for them to start the warranty procedure. Got a bit more info off them today. They did a test on the old coolant by adding a dye that reacts to CO2 which lead them to think exhaust has was getting into the coolant causing the excessive pressure. Hopefully will hear more this evening.

Got the car back yesterday evening after the ran a few tests. Compression tested the cylinders and the coolant system. They also bled the coolant system a few times and they actually found no issues at all. Seems like they may have jumped to a conclusion. I have it in writing that the checks were completed and they found no issues so any trouble down the road and i'M covered. Bit annoying that I had to chase them up over this stuff after the service but at least I have peace of mind that theres nothing wrong with the car and I can drive it on happily now.

Does make you question doesn't it.... o well

Glad it's all ok. Probably better news that they don't know what there doing and it was ok over needing a head gasket I suppose
