Haven't even got the car yet...

I just had a call from the dealer I'm buying my 04 LCR from. He's had it checked over the last couple of days prior to me picking it up this weekend.

He's said that the Convenience Unit seems to be shot after the battery on the car died and now isn't responding on VAGCOM properly and won't recognise the key fob code for central locking etc.

So I thought I could still go pick it up as I can just use the key to lock/unlock and still drive it, while I'm waiting for him to get a replacement CU (which he's already ordered), as long as it's still driveable then no problem.

But then he also said that the fuel filler cap release is tied in with the CU problem somehow and it can't be released manually, so I could use the key to get into the car and drive it, but wouldn't be able to fill it up with fuel.

Does that sound right?? The guy seems pretty straight up to me, but I've no idea if what he's telling me is true or not as I don't know enough about LCRs.

Admittedly, he's said the problem seems to be a bit intermittent, but he doesn't want to give me the car when he knows there's something up with it that might cause me problems.

I'm just getting frustrated as it now looks like I have to wait another week to get the car while the part is delivered from Germany.

I reckon that's right enough what he's saying, I wouldn't pick it up until it's totally sorted.

I had to wait a few extra days for mine as it got MOT'd and needed some new brake pads, tyres and a ball joint to pass the MOT. The joys of buying a used car...

personally id wait for the car.

Id want it sorted prior to taking it, you never know what it may end up being.

Fuel filler cap operation i would have thought was seperate to the convenience, but then we dont know what the issue is and electrics can cause al sort of issues if they go wrong.
A flat battery shouldnt cause all these issues..

Yeah, that's what I thought. From checking a few threads on here I know it controls the Central locking and I'm pleased he's being upfront and sorting it for me at his own cost before he hands the car over. I was just looking forward to giving it a razz this weekend!! *SULK*

That sounds like good service aye.

Just so you know, the fuel filler cover will only open by pressing a button near the gearlever (classy see?) so it's all electronic, no keyslot in the cover to take away from the gorgeous car )

Don't mean to piss on your fire works but there is a chance that the fuel filler selonoid could have gone so they may have to replace that part as well if the convenience module doesn't fix that problem but he sounds like a rare dealer and is showing very good customer service.
Good things come to those who wait :)

I'd wait and ensure everything is sorted before taking ownership just incase. :)
As above

I'd make sure I check EVERYTHING prior to leaving the garage.

It's very easy to get caught up in the moment of getting a new car.

The door lock mechanism on my car was getting an imetmittant problem.
this manifested it's self in kicking in the alarm when I went about 15 mph.

It turned out to be water in this and needs replaced.
this involves removing the door card, glass, inner panel and lock mechanism.

Leave it with them till its right then it'll be happy motoring

Still waiting on the new car 2 weeks later.....Zzzzzzz.....

The new Convenience Unit module has now been fitted, but needs 'coding up' (or something like that) by a dealership. The dealer I'm getting it off took the car to his usual VW engineer mate to sort, but apparently he can't do it and it's GOT to go to a SEAT dealership. He said the VAG companies have all seperated themselves from each other for stuff like this and will only deal with their own types of cars. Seems a bit ridiculous as they're all the same parts under the hood.

Anyway, I've now got to wait til Monday as the service depts don't work past lunchtime on Saturday.

Must keep telling myself "it will be worth it in the end"...

Cheers, good to know. At least it confirms that my dealer is being straight up with me. He's been really sound so far sorting all of this and letting me know what is going on, it was just a shame with the timing today as we found out too late to get it sorted before the service dept's shut for the day.

Oh well, it will all be sorted Monday and then I'll be looking back on all this and laughing :)

Nice one boys. I am now forever on the lookout for other Leon drivers so I'll keep an eye out for you. I'll have to get myself a site sticker at some point I guess...

So anyway, they replaced the convenience unit last weekend, then it had to get booked into the Seat garage to get it coded up which took another three days. Then they found out that the chip in the key fob was also faulty and couldn't be coded to the new CU and had to order in one of them too! I was starting to lose patience towards the end and was wondering if it just wasn't meant to be and whether the car was ever going to be mine.

It took three weeks start to finish, but I finally picked it up on Saturday morning and boy was it worth the wait. I've been on a couple of long runs in it over the weekend up to the Midlands and I am happy to say that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! :)

It's easy to drive, awesome power and it eats up the miles with ease. It also looks cool as f**k. Loving the new iDA-X305 stereo and the sound from the standard speakers is pretty good I thought. I've given it a good clean (2 bucket method) and waxed it up with some Meguiars Gold this weekend and it looks stunning. I'll post up a readers rides sometime soon.

One downside, it was raining on my journey back on Saturday and it become clear why so many people swap the stock windscreen wipers over. They were terrible! Frequently squeaking and juddering on intermittent wipe when it wasn't raining too heavily and the rear one just smeared all the time. So I've already replaced the rear with a Fabia one today and have Golf Mk4 Aero wipers on order for the front too. The wipers seem to be the only thing that lets an otherwise awesome car down!

Worth it in the end ;)

Just so you know, one of the mk4 aero wipers (passenger side i think) needs to be cut down a little in order to fit properly

It is the passenger side that's too long as standard, although I remember reading somewhere on here that you can fit a shorter blade to the passenger side to make up for it. You can also mount the wiper on that side at a slightly increased angle as well.

Glad you got the car in the end Wrecker, I'll keep my eyes open next time I'm in Uxbridge :)
