Has anyone got a uprated manifold on the LCR?

Yes it cracked (when I was running K03S), pics in my install thread. We welded it up. :)

I think some of the issues arose from having the restrictive K03S behind it.

 - how do you mean with the restrictive k03s....as in this caused it to crack?

just working on an a3 1.8t quattro at the moment.
head off last night.. turbo is fecked.. realyl cracked, chunk missing, cracks thru wastegate, across the flange in 3 places, gasket was cracked also. 100k mile car so had some use, but its toast.

was that the one that was dropped off when I was there Bill? nice example if it is

100k on a k03(s) - thats quite some life out of the standard unit!!

I'd bet they'd run for three times that if they were left at standard boost pressure...........

well obviously, like any component built to run standard strains as designed in the factory

but we don't do that on here do we:D

this is a stock car, so shows you std performance and boost will still crack anything on the hot side... its just the way it is.. heat cycles and metal dont mix..

Sorry to unearth this but I am wondering if anyone knows of anyone running a free flowing exhaust manifold yet or if anyone is producing a good one yet?

I am considering going to stage 2 so i'll be fitting a turbo-back system, naturally. However, after that at some point I think I might consider Hybrid K04 but it seems quite pointless unless I can upgrade the exhaust manifold. I believe it poses a rather large restriction and limits the hybrid turbo's potential, with very few Hybrid LCR's making the 300 - 320bhp estimates. I stand corrected if I am wrong though but there seems to be little difference in figures between Stage 2, FMIC & TB vs Stage 2, FMIC, TB & Hybrid...Is it the manifold that's holding things back or are there other issues?

JBS did an equal length tubular manifold for a while, one person had one fitted with a hybrid K04. JBS posted results which, I think showed a +30bhp gain (Hybrid K04 on stock manifold vs Hybrid on Equal length.).

Nobody else (I don't think) bought one as they were considered too expensive. Plus the one guy's manifold cracked and he took it off.

If you look at the stock manifold when it's off the car, it does seem restrictive, but usually when you're just looking at stuff and not looking at CFM figures etc, things can seem restrictive.

JBS were working on a cast upgrade manifold for the K04.

Thanks feel. That's a substantial gain and seems to show where the Hybrid is losing its power (280bhp with stock manifold/hybrid +30bhp = 310bhp high flow manifold/hybrid).

I am sure you can get an equal length manifold fabricated, I will have a look in to this. Otherwise there seems little point in going hybrid if it's going to be running at less than it's full potential.

has anyone seen this result corroborated on another dyno?

:D I wondered if anyone would comment.

He did run it on other dynos, notably it made well over 300bhp on Awesome's at one point, but he did have boost control issues and spent a lot of time fiddling with VTune and Manual controllers. I remember he ran at other places and got lower figures and later at Awesome, but this was with da boost turned down to make it more drivable.

Great car with the diff etc, spiking K04's might not be "properly" tuned, but they're good fun

Can't find the graph, now, can't remember if it was the day I ran the beemer, but I can't find that, either. Dave might remember.

it only gave the car an extra 15bhp

I think it was that day, but that graph seems lower than I remember. I remember Gary was there (Edit: and Gary's car's not in that list).

Anyway. I'm only going by my rapidly fading memory.

There would be one way to find out.
