Hello guys! I was driving home from work today and had a chance to open the car up a bit. Was on a nice open empty road but she didnt feel right? The car felt like it was on jelly, Not good! Kind of felt like there was a delay from steering wheel to road then when it did steer it felt really light? I have got new wheels and tyres, dont know if this has anything to do with it? Any help would be good? Thanks

Check your tyre pressures. Also get your balancing checked and get a full geometry check done.

Tyre pressures is fine, i was planning on getting the balancing done this weekend. What a geometry check? and who can do it?

Geometry check is alignment, camber, toe in, toe out, caster etc. It's a full check of the suspension and wheel setup and how everything is working, which direction things are pointing etc. It's a step on from a normal alignment check which is useful, but only tells a small part of the story.

Oh, and nice arse ;)

No. That would be a waste of money to go back to my old wheels? plus they looked awful! I think i read before that the leons handling wasnt very good at higher speeds? (is this right?) so im thinking maybe its just how the car is? Im planning to have it lowered on coilovers in a few months so this should help.

You dont get what i mean .......

You changed something on the car and it's "not right now" - so the easiest and usually quickest test to do is put it back to the way it was and see if that fixes it, if it does the issue is with the new bits :)

Stick your old wheels back on and go for a drive, if everything is OK then it points to the new wheels/tyres and you need to get that looked at.

If it's still not right with the old wheels on then it's probly not the wheels thats causing it - tracking, susspension, steering & bearings all need inspected then to find it.

Although in saying all that, what sizes were the old wheels/tyres & what about the new ones (need a bit more info that 16" and now 18"!!!!)

Well i know it was the wrong thing to do but I needed to keep my spending down abit so i just got budget tyres with the wheels:no:. I know i shouldnt skimp on something like tyres, But i did:( When i need new ones i will get something better. So i guess this could also be a big part of my handling problem? But saying all this the handling was still light with the standard wheels on.

Sorry Dave, i did get what you ment but the problem was still there with the old wheels? maybe not as much but it was there. The old wheels 16" with 205/55 tyres and now 18" 7.5 wheels with 225/40. That all i know about them?

My LCR had some of the symptoms you describe, felt a bit 'loose'. Turned out the arb bushes were shot and I had a worn CV joint. Got both replaced under warranty and it's much improved.

However, why not try the old wheels and see it the symptoms persist?
