Halfords or Total Gearbox Oil

I am having the gearbox oil changed tomorrow and from the searching i've done on the forum it takes 75w-80.

I know Opie recommend Fuchs Titan Sintofluid 75w-80 but i need it for tomorrow morning so won't get it in time.

The two options I have locally are from halfords own 75w-80 or Total 75w-80 from GSF

Would any of these be ok?

I just spoke to Euro Car Parts and another option is Triple QX 75w-80

Not Halfords, go for the best you can get as it will be in there for a long time and you want to take care of your gearbox. I would avoid own-brand oils, which leaves the Total one (TripleQX is ECP's own brand). That's what I would go for, anyway.

I spoke to the local Seat dealers and they gave me the VAG part number G052171A2 for gearbox oil but were unable to tell me the grade.

After doing some research on VAG forums I believe this is 75W-90 fully synthetic (Please correct me if i'm wrong).

I have now found Comma 75w-90 fully synthetic locally which states on the front it is suitable for VW, Audi and Seat manual transmission. Short of time otherwise would have purchased from Opie Oils.

From your profile you have an LCR, so an FML or FZQ gearbox. It will have originally been filled with "Gear synthetic oil API GL4 SAE 75W in accordance with standard TL 521 71 (Spare no. G 052 171 A2)"

Comma don't do a single-weight gear oil, and I would guess that out of their several gear oils you have found this one

I wouldn't regard Comma as a premium supplier, but I expect the multigrade oil will be OK.

Thanks for the advice guys. Comma was £11 a litre and genuine oil from the dealers was £17 a litre with trade discount.

Decided to buy the genuine stuff.
