Morning all!

I had the standard discs and pads changed on my FR about 6 months ago now. I have prolly done about 3k since then and the brakes still dont seem to be working that well. I mean, it stops the car, but im not confident they would work well in an emergency situation.

There is also a grinding noise from them when i leave in the morning for work but that dissappears by the time i get to work 15 miles away. I Cant see any evidence of scoring on the discs.

Any ideas whats going on folks?

Your brake fluid is probably not in it's best condition then

The grinding could simply be grit caught between the pads if the car is left standing in the rain or surface rust on the discs. If it only does it in the morning and not when you go home in the evening then contribute it as normal.

If however, you experience it on your drive home you could be looking at loose / damaged pads (highly unlikely)

If your brakes were done all round I would doubt the pads need renewing unless you're Jenson Button on your way to work!

Grinding noise just sounds like surface rust on the brakes that forms wen parked. Also you really should be changing brake fluid every so often.

Genuine!

You are prolly gonna hate me now....It was done at a Halfords Autocentre! (I wouldnt normally go there but I had a £100 voucher!!!)

HEATHEN! :ban:

To be fair, their Autocentres probably contain just as qualified mechanics as a majority of back street garages, you get what you pay for!

I probably would get your brake fluid changed soon, you'll definitely feel a difference in stopping power and gain confidence in your braking :wtf:

Thanks for the advice. I might take it in for a "Free brake Check" in the new year at my local garage with that in mind.
