I think its a good thing... even standard diesels have trouble with the DPF. If he was to wish for more power at a later date, then he can do that as he has removed the DPF.

Hats off to him! I can see alot of 170 drivers being happy.

Granted tyres and coilovers etc help... but only on track... I wouldnt ever push my car that hard on the road. And if he isnt going on a track, then this is the only way to make his car quicker.

I think he needs a pat on the back, rather than your approach.

MITRASHARK..

is yours using additive or not???
ie early or late model?

it`s not using aditive. the car is from july 2006.

In response to chippenhamwilts, i`m looking for better performance...and for that i need more power...Of course it`s all about how the power is delievered! That`s why there are good and bad remaps! About the tyres and brakes...If you do a search on me you will see i have my car prepared for track and street. About your 230 bhp impreza...**...go drive a 300 bhp impreza and tell me if there isn`t any " significantly " difference? in your point of view only 5000 HP will make difference...

Regards.

Hmm however to date emissions testing for Diesels is a visual smoke test only, if you rag it down to the MOT testing station and get the car nice and warm there will be little or no smoke.

Most people who mod a new car have 3 years grace at the moment anyway, most of them will sell it before the MOT even becomes a small cloud on the distant horizon.

As for the DPF, having read all of the horror stories about how badly they run when they regenerate, removing it would definitely appear to be an upgrade.

As for warranty, i thought that it was up to dealers to prove that removal of a particular part caused problems and if the problem reported can't be proven to be anything to do with what you removed then the only part of the warranty you invalidate is the warranty on the part you removed and any directly affected component.

see i love it when someone makes comments like this, did you read mine or what? so entry by entry

20-30 bhp isnt really significant especially as I said 'ON THE ROAD' not on a track.....

I also said remap, and never mentioned exhausts etc and if you can find a 'high flow exhaust for a diesel your doing well'.

You go and get an FR TDI 170 mapped and when I get mine, you come and lose me on the road and I bet you don't

Again on the road, the 400 bhp cossie versus my 230bhp impreza was rather fun as he had TO MUCH power ALL the time and I left him on roads we both new. Oh did I mention on the road at all.....I dont see track mentioned in my statement. Do you spend all day at the track? does anyone here drive only at a track?

Like I say, you go and get the same car mapped, come and visit and we will test them against each other for performance, economy etc 'ON THE ROAD' where it matters.....real world. not on calculators and in books

Oh and this was a diesel thread wasnt it, so take my comments as meant for diesels too. Not petrols, the impreza bit was only as an example...true as it was.

You'll notice that DPF and FR are mentioned at the top of the thread, so remapping one of these at the moment is releasing about 20 bhp, that might equte to about .5 of a second 0-60 which if you cant drive anyway is only going to waste a lot of money for little gain. buying a set of really good tyres will gain just as much if not more and that is a proven fact......obviously combining both will add up but that wasn't the statement....was it?

Last comment...did you notice I said MUCH DIFFERENCE

Tak a little time and read things ...S L O W L Y

However a 140PD TDi would probably look more attractive provided it had no DPF as the extra money the 170 commands vs the difference between a mapped 140 and mapped 170 is not worth it as things stand at the moment.

I'm pretty sure that none of the 140's have DPF.

that was a cracking car, if it only had 5drs.
but i remember shortly after the car was mapped from stnd 180 to 197 i had a race with an Octavia 180, granted my golf would weight less than the octy but on the bypass you could tell the extra diff as i was leaving him, and he knew it, strange this i was talking about this today.

Would this explain the eratic fuel consumption values I have been getting - most of the last 3weeks, speeds have been very high x00 mway with local slow speeds??
