Great build! Always look forward to reading your thread :D

If you need a loom let me know, they are mega expensive from the dealers.

What an epic build top work!

Cheers Mate !!!

you mean like these,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-...item3a3c900369

they seen cheap do i not need any type to take the strain?

Can't see the item mate, it says the listing ended over 90days ago.
I'm not sure as to what torque is required on the bolts, they may need to be high Tensile bolts but i haven't checked yet... I don't think they need to be HT bolts as the thread is Metric coarse - most of the HT or stretch bolts seem to be metric fine. I will double check tomorrow and have a look in the haynes manual.

That turbo and manifold is just unreal!

Thanks Bud :D

Cool, Glad your enjoying the read pal. Oh and i do need a AUQ loom, if you've got one ???
PM me if you have bud.

So smallish update -

Spent a couple of hours messing about today.

I refitted the headlights and spent a while re-aligning the front cross members etc -

DSC01162.jpg

Had to lift everything up quite a bit as the gap between the headlights and the top of the cut outs in the wings.

I also dropped in the coolant header tank and the washer bottle tank in there just to get them off the floor. I also wanted them in to help out routing pipes etc. I've decided to order some new tanks as they look all yellowy and old.

DSC01163.jpg

So i trimmed the LCR bumper back and started fitting the Supercopa front wing spats, i temporary drilled a hole through them and fitted a captive style nut on the back panel.

Here's a couple of pics -

So just gotta trim the other side up and then i can use some super sticky adhesive / sealant stuff on them and stick the spats on, gonna have a lot of smoothing / filling to do.

Also stripped and painted the auxilary bracket and also knackered my starter motor too [:@]

Well i'm getting there gonna try and finish off cutting the front bumper tomorrow and then have a go at fitting the side skirts.

Looking good mate , you can't even see the lines where my wings have been joined together , he used some glue to set mine then fibre glass sheeted the back as well , what are you doing with the bottom splitter bit ? I would chop it off if I was you

Cheers Dan, yeh planning on just chopping it off.
As you know to get the front wheels dropped in the arch there isn't gonna be much room for the front splitter. I might not even run one - just nice and low.... may have to make a sump guard tho :)

Yer I need to sort a sump guard out , also only thing with going lower is the wish bones sit at stupid angles the drive shafts do the same these can be sorted with engine spacers but the wish bones need some spacers to raise them I'm trying to find some

Yeh i saw somebody on here with engine spacers on, they seemed very simple thick bits of plate with 2 holes in.... hmmm may order some ali plate off egay and make some.
Never seen any spacers used on the wishbones, do you know where they fit ?

The only place i could think of is between the lower ball joint and wishbone....

The spacers need all the engine mounts and dog bone also need longer bolts someone on eBay is selling them for 30 quid but no bolts , for the wish bones some one has made some was in eBay can't find the link will ask my mate as he found them , you will need a chassis notch tho as the drive shaft drivers side smashes on the chassi

Yer it's the wishbone spacers I can't find ,

Chassi needs to be cut ie hole saw inline with the drive shaft only on the drivers side without it you won't get low enough with it there Im sure there are pics on the net once it's cut they usually weld plates /tube so it's smooth and stronger etc ,

Cheers for the linky Dan, doesn't look that hard... infact easy peasy compared to installing the diff etc in mine.

I wonder if it makes any difference having the 4wd cos the transfer box sits towards the drivers side and the drivers side drivershaft is approx 8 or 10" shorter..... Hmm i'll have a look later on when i put the TT wishbones / hubs on etc...

So spent a couple of hours in the garage.... getting cold again, i'm at the stage where i'm working on the front of the car so it's sticking out the garage and i can't shut the door.... bbrrrrrrr.

So started by working on the LCR front bumper, the underneath of the bumper was all broken on one side so i trimmed back the other side to match. I'll probably make an aluminium engine cover / sump gaurd to run from the front edge of the bumper to behind the engine.
I then decided to start working on the dirty great big crack in the front bumper -

Shot of the back of the bumper -

DSC01170.jpg

Front shot, can't really see the crack tho -

DSC01171.jpg

So i got my soldering iron out and plastic welded it all back together, tried bending it all and its nice and strong......good as new !!!!

All Done -

DSC01173.jpg

After a bit of a going over with the sander -

DSC01174.jpg

DSC01177.jpg

DSC01178.jpg

Just gonna have to fill up a couple of dimples and scratches, and it'll be smashing.
I have started stripping the paint off from around the cracked area as all the paint had hairline cracks running through it - obviously off the whack it had to crack it. The paint on the same place on the other side is all cracked so i'l do that aswell.

I drilled the front wings for the side fixings (i needed to assemble the front end properly then decide on position for hole drilling etc)

Cutt the bottom of the wing extensions as i have no intention of running with a massive splitter.
I then started cutting the passenger side of the bumper for the spats - Fitted some screws and captive clamping nuts to hold it all in position, i will fill the holes and smooth it all over once i've got the extensions glued to the bumper.

DSC01179.jpg

DSC01180.jpg

(i've got to make some brackets to tie the ends of the front bumper to the wings still)

DSC01183.jpg

So i got too cold in the end and called it a night, got to entertain the wife tomoro so won't get anything done. I've still got another 2 weeks off tho so happy days.

I think I wrote this a few pages ago Graham, but I'm still in total admiration for the work that you keep producing. This is my favourite thread on here by far at the moment!

Will you be sticking with the factory blue colour when the car gets resprayed?

With regards to the coolant bottle, a mate of mine experienced this with his too. After wise words from his mum, he put it in his dishwasher on an intensive wash wish a Finish tab, and after a couple of rounds it looked good as new, bar losing the the black markings on the outer (referencing the instruction manual). Of course, it depends just how badly stained the plastics are, but... pennies make pounds...

Hope you had a good Christmas. Looking forward to reading future progress...

James.

Wow thanks for the kind words James

I do intend on keeping it the same colour, it's a really nice blue when it's in the sun, and hopefully it will be seeing some sun this summer at the shows :D
Thanks for the coolant bottle tip mate, i'm just gonna buy a new one though only about £8.

Cheers Mate.

Small update time, nothing too exciting im afraid - i'm at the stage of the build now where it's gonna get a bit boring as i wait for parts / do bodywork etc... but hang in there.

So i've painted the Power steering / alternator bracket up in satin black and mounted the power steering pump onit -

DSC01187.jpg

Mounted on the car -

DSC01189.jpg

I had to remove the turbo to get the power steering pipe back on, mounted the pipe clamp back on. The power steering pipe looks crap as it's quite corroded... i may repaint it later but i just wanted to get it all back in.

So after that i decided to get on with the wiring loom and get it sorted.
The original loom was in quite bad condition, the wires had perished around the coils and there were several plugs knackered where i was a little rough in the strip down.

So i found a Golf AUM/AUQ wiring loom on ebay for £25, i wasn't sure if it was gonna be the same as the Leon AUQ loom but i thought if not i could always butcher it and use it to repair my original loom.
It came the other day and i checked it against the Leon one - exactly the same !! Score :p

So i fitted it the other day -

DSC01191.jpg

I know i was a bit silly to do so but i never labelled the plugs up when i removed the engine etc.... it seemed to be quite obvious (at the time) where all the plugs went, but 1 year later and it appeared to be a lot less obvious

So after plugging in all the sensors etc that looked right i slowly managed to work out the rest.

So i fitted the new guides for holding the back bumper on, the bumper fitted nicely after a bit of trimming of the guides -

DSC01184.jpg

DSC01185.jpg

So tomorrow i've got to drive down to bradford and pick up an LCR back bumper that i have bought off egay for £65. It's got a little bit of damage around the exhaust opening but nothing major.

I have also just sent Clay @ CTS turbo some money in exchange for some goodies :)

So i've got a Large Port SEM inlet Manifold coming with a 80mm opening, Eurodyne Meastro 7 Tuning software, Some Injector Dynamics 1000cc injectors, and some Lumpy Integrated Engineering IECVA1's Street Strip camshafts :D

mmmm tasty gains...
