Good man on the brakes! Will be interesting to get your review :)

I'm not a huge fan of painted calipers, however if I was the red would be the only colour i'd use! I think as your car is such a stealth mobile, red may look a little out of place?

 Maybe black or grey/silver to match the theme of the car!
Just have seen loads of supercars in Evo and Top Gear magazines with black wheels and yellow calipers. Love the look....

Think if they were billet calipers like in the pics then yellow would look cool but i'd just keep them stealthy black, i just did mine black and think it look's good. My pads are red though so you can see a tiny bit of colour i suppose. and yeh standard hoses fit fine, just calipers, carriers, discs and pads :)

:D Black would be stealthy... would be nice to have some colour on the car somewhere! Maybe just under the bonnet....

Going to see about getting them stripped of paint first. Bought some Nitromors yesterday to have a go myself. If not, then sandblasting might be the order of the day.

get yourself a wire brush for a grinder or a flap wheel for a drill and do it yourself your get more job satisfaction out of it and it will probally be cheaper.

Good idea too! I'm always up for giving stuff a bash... Will see what the Nitromors does first, then probably sand it all down.

 Just unsure of the best type of paint to use: any ideas folks?

Silver gets my vote. I painted my 312 set gloss silver and they look great. I used smooth silver Hammerite and then a high temp clear gloss lacquer.

Seen the idea of smoked side repeaters, did you buy a seperate kit from somewhere?

Thinking of doing this to mine, also did it on my previous car, but used some tinting spray.

Worked out really well in the end, didn't even bother taking them out, just masked up the area around it well.

The stuff is called Savage tint spray and can be picked up on eBay for less than a tenner a can!

EDIT:

Can now post images! So, picture of my old Punto's repeaters very lightly smoked (go darker by putting on more layers of tint spray to acheive any shade...):

312mm calipers and carriers REFURB

Well, got my laptop back from the boffins at school today and all is OK so finally I can get some pics up of my refurb of the 312mm calipers and carriers I recently purchased.
They were off a Skoda Octavia VRS and were obviously green with a bit of surface rust etc. Decided I would go for a full refurb on them and a change of colour, so here goes....

First slapped a bit of Nitromors on them to get some of the paint off. Did nothing really. :(
Then decided to mabe given sand blasting a go, but then thought about puchasing a wire drill bit and give that a go! This really did the trick of getting the paint off! :funk: Started to clean the calipers and carriers up. Didn't go for a total strip of all of the paint from the entire caliper, just concentrating on the poor quality paintwork and faces that would be seen on the car. Here are some pics:

Nioce and clean! Then I thought about paint. Should I go for sparay or brush on? Halfrauds stuff or Hammerite/ I plumped for Hammerite Smooth Red in the end (no wacky colours either!) This has gone on fairly easiely so far but it has an odd consistency TBH. I put on two coats to start with and sanded it back lightly. Here are how they stand at the moment:

Then I removed the dust seals and brakes lines etc and ordered a new seal kit from ebay. Took the pistons out too.

More updates to come folks in the next few days/weeks. Obviously with a new baby I don't get much time for car DIY at the moment!

I didnt know you could buy the seal kits! I was told you couldn't - hence why I bought 2 brand new calipers and have 2 second hand calipers still in the garage!

Looks good though Mike and hope is all going well with the ickle bambino.

Looking good! Dunno about you but i found refurbing my calipers dead relaxing!

 Getting the paint off was fun (and noisy, dusty.....). I'm a bit impatient so I had to really be disciplined with the time I left between coats of paint etc. Going OK. Can't wait to get them on the car with shiney new discs....

Should I lacquer them as the paint seems quite soft?

Got the seals from a company called BiggRed. I saw them rated very highly on some other forums so gave them a bash! They do full calipers or just pistons and seals kits etc.
All going well with baby thanks....
