How do you find it compares to the Mk5 R32? Just had a discussion with a Mk5 R32 owner outside my local garage he's convinced his car's better and faster and so are the owners of the garage! Ha not against a stg2+ Cupra

R32 was a great car for the exhaust sound, interior build quality and 4wd. However it was a heavy car needing probably about 350bhp to make it feel really rapid. DSG with launch control and the great traction made it very quick off the mark but it didn't feel as fast as the Mk2 Cupra particularly now with the remap. At the end of the day the Golf was ex demo at £28k and the Cupra was ex demo at £18k. No brainer for value for money.

Manual stock Mk5 R32 v manual stock Mk2 Cupra. IMO Cupra's quicker on the straight (if it's dry) but the amazing traction of the R32 might make it quicker in the wet and round the twisty bits.

ok i realise the mk2 leon is a better car, but then again it should be (as you dont replace a car with a worse one) hate all this cussing of the LCR

the mk2 leon is 20k new, LCR was 18k
2lturbo vs 1.8turbo (of course a measy 1.8t wont hit 300bhp!!)
LCR brembos standard but the cupra dont have brembos

So yeh the suspension and power potential is better on the mk2 but the brakes would of defo been better on the LCR

the LCR is a mighty fine car, yeh the interior is starting to show its age, but it was a damn sight more premium than the mk2 leon (before recent facelifted interior)

i have a question though...how come all the mods are cheaper on the mk2 than the mk1? £300 for a intercooler? its twice that on a LCR

Got nothing against the LCR whatsoever. Have you tested the MK2 brakes? :-o
Heavy and only single piston but stunning stopping power for a standard set up!

The £300 cooler is the oem S3 cooler, straight swap and slightly larger/ more effiecient cores. Can cost £7 - 800 for the likes of Apr coolers for the Mk2

;)

The brakes on the MK2 are better. Trust me ;). And if you dont beliebe me, ask Willie :). 345mm discs as standard - it stops quicker.

The mod parts are similar prices for both cars now, but if anything, the MK1 parts are cheaper as its an older obsolete model. Also, the MK2 cost more just as everything did in 2007 over 2002.

MK2 S2+ will put accelarate a 400bhp Evo on the move. Mk1 wont on a standard turbo ;)

And for what its worth, I think the MK2 LC is better looking than the MK1 as long as it has the spoiler and skirts.
