Hi all

I have a strange klonking noise on my lcr and i think its coming from my gearbox. Its a Intermitant noise and only happens when ideling (the gearbox feels and sounds ok when driving). You can hear it more if you stick your head by the front passenger wheel. Could it be the gearbox after all the car has only done 15000 miles. I know its hard with out hearing it but didnt know if anyone else has had the same issue.

Any ideas???

Any help would be appreciated starting to bug me now!

Cheers

drive shaft or end but when you say its doing it when you cars on idle?try pushing the clutch in (not in gear tho) then release it slowly and if the noise comes back its the thrust bearing so that will mean taken the box out

Enigne mounts maybe, especially the dogbone mount? Clutching at straws, but if one had come loose you might hear a clonk that would disappear once there was torque on the engine. A clonk when lifting off the throttle would point in this direction. Just guessing though.

If you bought it from new, take it into a dealer ASAP. At only 15,000 miles I'd say you had a good case to get help from who you bought it from under the 1979 Sale of Goods Act if the gearbox needs work.

hi

could it be the big end bearings? or would you get a constent noise rather then an intermitant noise?

I would expect mounts to clonk at idle, where the engine is not delivering torque to the wheels, and when lifting off the throttle, which is usually a more severe change of torque than putting the power down. However when you're under way, engine and road noise may be masking the clonks.

Should be easy to test though, look into the open bonnet while a mate revs the engine for you. If you get clonks coinciding with the engine rocking, its likely to be mounts.

hi

the noise was happening before i change the dog bone mount, the bolts have thread locking compund on them and they are torqued up to the correct torque setting.

cheers

I have noticed this noise again. its like a deep / faint knock but its not constant. could it be something like the flywheel? problem is its been like it since ive had it which is 2 years in april. everytime i have taken it to the garage they say they cant find anything wrong with it. very strange and is always the way!
