Gear Stick Pulled Out!

Hi, Well while i was out sunday night i was kinda in the racing mood so what happened was when i was driving faster than normal i 'gently' rammed it into 2nd gear and i thought i ripped the gear stick staight out...but i didn't i pulled it about 3-4 inches higher than normal it was like i pulled it out of socket. I've pushed it back down and its good as before, don't know if i've broken any clips or anything down there...
has anyone had this happened to them?

There is a clip at the bottom of the gearknob which sometimes isnt crimped enough or just missing.
remove your gator and have alook, its a golded clip you just crimp it with apair of side cutters and jobs a done.
