G62 temp sensor query

Hi

Been getting engine code
17664/P1256 - Engine coolant temp circuit (G62): open / short to B+
for a while now.

From reading the forum, it appears that the G62 sensor being on the blink is quite common.

So have finally decided to get it replaced.

But... don't have a SEAT dealer within a 100 miles! these days but do have a local Skoda dealer.


Question... are these sensors common across all TDI engines? or do I need one specific for my car/engine? And if so, would one for a Skoda Fabia VRS be the same?

I got one from him the other week for circa £20 mate.

Go to any VAG dealer and give them the engine type - they will provide the correct sensor as a 130 TDI 1.9 Seat engine is the same as a 130 TDI 1.9 same type Volkswagen or Skoda engine.

I'll try the Skoda garage first. As I'm dropping my sisters Fabia in for some warranty work tomorrow. Failing that, I'll speak to Sere Motors.

IIRC I paid about £25 for mine from a SEAT dealer so if Dave at Sere can get you it for £20 that might be better.

But worth checking other VAG dealerships beforehand as prices vary between them.
