Full tank cause hesitation?

Right. I've had intermittant problems with pinking and hesitation under acceleration for a little while now. First I put down to a dodgy tank of fuel, but it's happened on and off several times now.

A few months back King's SEAT, Sidcup looked at it for two days after it had hesitated badly - but of course it was nowhere near as bad when they investigated - just slight hesitation under gas in 2nd. No fault codes. They thought it may be early signs of cat failure but didn't want to replace it without anything concrete (didn't charge for 2 days investigation btw). After discussion on here I disconnected MAF, no difference. Even got it up on a qwik-fit ramp and inspected exhaust, no apparant leaks.

When it's bad from cold there is really serious hesitation and a misfire. Last month for the first time I was getting hesitation in all gears even when fully warm, but then the problem disappeared again and it seemed OK - until I filled up today. I always use Optimax and always fill the tank but I never overfill. I'm wondering if the problems are only happening when the tank is full and as I'm getting through the first quarter tank? Would this suggest anything? I've only driven about 5 miles on a warm engine since filling up again - but it's definately worse. The car had seemed to be back to itself when I was down to the last quarter of the previous tank but now it's sluggish again. It's getting bleeding annoying. Any help/answers appreciated.

get the seat guys to pay more attention to the lift up pump in your boot (its where you will find a black round plate measuring a radius of 5inches.

secondly, tell them to pay more attention to the fuel pump normally located underneath the car. (this is a more powerful pump)

Thanks for the reply. I was beginning to think along those lines. Sure enough cold start on a full tank this morning meant lots of hesitation - no power at all. Why would a full tank affect it more - something to do with the pressure? Is it the fuel pump I hear when I open the drivers door? Also how will they be able to tell if it's knackered?

try to listen to the noise emmitted by the pump when its ok and do the same when it plays up (try to be in a quiet area with all windows upand heaters off) .
you will notice that the lift up pump in the boot might emmit a fluctuating noise as if someone is strangling or starving it of power.

normal cause of this is running low on fuel most of the time.
this causes the lift up pump to collect dirt/crap/shite/ e.t.c.
over a period of time it knackers the lift up fuel pump.
