Fuel leak, what is this?

Friday the 13th struck me 45 minutes from midnight...


So as I got home this evening and stepped out of the car I felt an alarming smell of precious liquids, looked down and saw a trail following my car where I had parked it.

First thought was oil leak, wrecked engine and an empty wallet after a trip to the scrap yard. Turned out it was only 95 octane. Looked under the car and saw it was wet from petrol dripping out somewhere under the right rear passenger seat area. It was just dripping every so slowly (would take months to empty a tank at that rate) when parked and ignition off but telling by the trails that followed me in it seems to squirt quite badly when driven.

I've had a P17445 code for some time, I believe thats a 'Fuel Mix too Lean' type of code no? Can this code be caused by the leak? It's been driving just fine except for being very thirsty.

Also, I'm a novice when it comes to tinkering with cars so many bits are still unknown to me. This is where the fuel was escaping the tank, what is this cylinder, what does it do?

that is a fuel filter mate. cheap and easy to replace and yes it could cause a running lean fault code

Replace it every year to be safe. Loosen the jubilee clip, push in the connector on both sides and replace.

Hope the filter is what's causing the leak, else I'll be eating dirt for a couple of weeks and the fam won't get any presents.

Changed the filter last night which stopped the leak. Hoping that solved the P17544 code as well. I cleared it with a scanner and went out for an hour long test drive and the code hasn't come back yet. *fingers crossed*
