Front windows open themselves whilst parked

Just had ex-demo Altea 1.4S for a couple of weeks now and twice now we've come back to the car and both front windows are open about a 1/4 way down.

Sure we closed windows before parking, and we wouldn't have had both open down to exactly that point.

I'll ring the dealer and get it checked under warranty, but will they find anything?

Is this a common fault? It makes us doubt our sanity.

No idea about an answer but I had a 59 plate Golf 1.9tdi as a work hire car last week and when I came out of my meeting ALL the windows were ALL the way down :-o

My Dad had this problem with his various VW, can't remember what the reasons were behind it as was some time ago now  Don't know what function it serves?? Know you could put the windows down with the key. I have never tried it with any of my Seat's nor experienced the problem thankfully.

If you press the unlock button twice rapidlon plipper the windows will start to open but only continue if you keep pressing, otherwise they will stop when finger released. (Windows will also close if you keep finger on lock button)
This can be turned off in the ECU by dealer (they should do it for nowt as its a security aspect)
It could also be that the auto stop has not been "set" on each window?
Take it back to dealer.

Thanks, Crisp,

We often click the 'lock' button twice out of habit because that's how the deadlock worked on our Vauxhall. I'll ask the dealer to disable it.

Well, I guess the alarm wouldn't really work with the windows open.

Anyhow, case closed. We've experimented with the remote and can open and close the windows at will. Thanks everyone!

PS: Back windows are manual, so if they're found open when parked one of the kids gets a clip round the ear...

This is the wrong thing to do with an Altea.
1 Press = Alarm + Deadlocks
2 Press = No Alarm, No Deadlocks (only to be used if someone is being left in the vehicle)

... its in the manual too - you know that paper thing that men NEVER read :)
Yes, just click once- listen for the deadlock "thunk". Job done. Press it again and the alarm /deadlocks go off - so your car is locked but not safely.
Back to windows - if the window has been blocked when opening ie the safety feature has detected pressure and rolled back open, then the window mechanism has to be reactivated so it can learn the final closed position again. See manual.....:)

On the my Altea the convenience opening/closing does the following :
Locking – Press (once) and hold lock button on remote, after 2 secs any open windows will close and Mirrors will fold in.
Unlocking – Press and hold unlock button on remote, after 2 secs all windows will commence opening as long as button is held (i.e. let go they will stop, keep pressing and they will open all the way).
Note, on my previous car (C-max) once opening started they kept on going even if you let go of the button.
