FR TDI or FR Petrol?

Your very negative on this thread!

Well the VXR will obviously be better than a FR in every way seeing as its a newer, more expensive, and bigger car than the ibiza. Plus the mk4 Beeza is getting on a bit now after all, and 150hp isnt that much to "not even think about space when overtaking". That comment is actually why I replied in the way I did.

Id still like one though, but I would want the VXR even more.

The topic is actually compairing fr petrol to diesel if you would be so kind to keep this thread on topic and keep ur negative comments to yourself. when overtaking in a 150bhp fr petrol u dont have to think about space compaired to a 130bhp diesel especially on a motorway doing 70+ correct me if i am wrong FR owners???

I don't think the diesels have much problem overtaking on a motorway - 70mph in top is around 2000rpm so right in amongst the torque nicely - no need to change gear really.

am nt saying the diesel couldnt do it just the lad asked how good the petrol overtakes so was just putting things into perspective :p

I said i've been looking at CBR600Fs, amongst other types of bike. Not decided what im going to buy yet although the new CB600FA Hornet seems the way forward at the moment... cheaper insurance and 0% finance.

Thanks for your concern [B)]

Dave, no worries! ;)
Its just that I have been riding bikes for sometime now and cringe when guys decide on a whim to do direct access and then go out and buy a Fireblade!
Believe me, after passing your test, even something like a Hornet, Fazer, SV650 etc. will be a fair step in performance, even to a VXR. A badly ridden Fireblade will eat you for breakfast!
Whatever bike you get, it will be more fun than a car!

Thats the stupid thing I have read in a long time. Usually in gear acceleration at high speeds the diesel are actually faster and you have to think about space in any car regardless whether you have 85hp 150hp or a 987hp veyron

What negative comments? That I dont want some kid who thinks his 150hp car is a rocket decides overtake in a stupid place because he doesnt have to think about space and crash into me? Nearly had a Evo smash head on into me the other day, he probably thought he didnt need to think about space either.

Now there is a phrase that I dislike, (in gear acceloration).............what other sort is there ???:p

I'm joking but TBH exactly how long are you ever in one gear anyway, the petrol wizzes through the revs like a chainsaw and the TDI has a very narrow power band that you need to keep it in as much as you can

They are both very nice cars but the petrol one is faster top end and quicker to 60 if you look at the tec specs

All this in gear lark is very subjective as one has 5 and the other has 6 and I don't think there is any 2 gear ratios that are shared between the 2 boxes

As I have said many times, I have swapped keys with my brother who has a 130 TDI and whoever is driving in whatever car, at whatever speed my petrol one always has the edge although it is sometimes only by a nose, Both cars are in perfect working factory order

personally it comes down to 2 things, quiet tick over and MPG, take your pick as they both upset people the same IMO

Petrol over TDI anyday for me also, however if cruising on the motorway in a fuel conserving higher gear the TDI will catch a petrol off guard if they both all of a sudden decide to gun it. The petrol will have to shift down first and by then its playing catchup. Hardly fair way to compare two vehicles but its one of the diesels advantages.

In gear acceleratayion is the wrong word. We should say higher gear flexibility like the germans do :D

going back to topic!!

standard for standard, petrol will always be more fun to drive..

not saying diesel isnt fun (i've got one) but the way a petrol behaves you'll always have more fun in one.

Whoever first mentioned an arsehole vxr in here needs to be shot. v***hall can't even get their marketing right, nevermind make a nice car (are you vxr enough? wtf does that mean? vexer? even if you use what the acronym stands for it doesn't work!)

they look crap anyway, don't agree that the interiors are better or that they rattle less, either.

They are, however, a damn sight better built than Renaults and Peugeots! :p

Peugeots used to be - they now make overpriced crap.
Renault sport have the best chassis nowadays generally.
Vauxhall have started to make some better 'sporting' cars lately imo.
