Recently bought a 52' plate Platinum Grey TDi SE which has the folding wing mirror icon at the 6 o'clock position on the electric mirror joystick but they don't work !

Followed the handbook instructions but still don't work. Can anyone help and tell me how I get them to work so my mirrors don't get wiped out while parked on the street ?

A bit silly but Seat told me to always turn anti-clockwise. Closkwise confuses it (dealer said it not me).

Key must be in the ignition too.

ditto stpete's comments - one of mine got stuck once and wouldnt move - a firm manual push on the mirror to put it back into place sorted it out.

I'm never sure whether to bring my mirrors in or not when parked on a road - not sure if i'd rather lose the mirror (known to be expensive to repair/replace) or to end up with a more expensive & nasty scratch/dent along the side of the car.

Mine work fine both ways.
Are you 100% sure the mirrors do fold? May be possible the icon is on the panel but they don`t actually fold. Otherwise, could be the motors in the mirrors. Have read a few posts on here with people saying they don`t fold in the mirrors cause the motors don`t last that long!!

Sounds silly but you are folding trying to fold them with the ignition on? Mine only start to fold with it on, but if you switch it off mid fold they keep going.
They also dont fold when you're moving......

Hmm, must be a toledo thing :)
I remember because i was passing a learner driver on a very narrow street and though i'll fold them in just in case, but they didnt. As soon as i stopped they started folding...which was at a junction - not the best place!

Mine will work with the ignition off when its been on and the until the doors have been opened (so I switch off, rotate the mirror button, push the windows up, then get out)

Try disconnecting battery and re-connecting, then with drivers door open and ignition on, switch on-off 3 times and see what happens!
