Will try new batteries later as a last resort, especially if the key is the correct one

Dragging up an old thread but I'm curious about having a go with this...

I've been doing a lot of reading and know that for the MK3 Ibiza you have to use an Alhambra key, part #7M3 959 753 - Siemens 433.92 MHz which covers the remote central locking side of things.

Roly's post covers a lot of pointers:

couple of helpers for you

to get both the remotes working do the following

1: key in ignition and turn till instrument lights come on
2: remove key and hold down 1 of the buttons
3: press the other 3 times
4: this should lock/unlock the vehicle whilst also flashing the lights

to get the 2nd remote working do steps 2 & 3 as soon as the 1st remote is programmed (this is what i have done with mine and i now have a 2 remote keys working fine)

the transponder needs to be the same type as used in your vehicle, the type should be stamped on the key blade (for example W or W3)

as far as i know transponders can be used as many times as you like as i've carried out loads of trial and error attempts and never had a problem re-using them

to programme the actual key you need the 4 digit immobiliser code

if you don't have this your local dealer can get it for you (but they will need the 14 digit code from the immobiliser which needs to be read from the vehicle using vag com or similar)

once you have the 4 digit code it's just a matter of coding it all in using vag com or similar

hope that helps a bit

(if anyone else is after remotes i have two more on ebay at the mo ;) )

Question is - can anyone confirm whether they managed to use the same transponder when they bought an Alhambra key or did they have to swap it out from their standard key?

I've found a complete Alhambra key on Ebay, advertised with a new case, blank blade and transponder so I've emailed him to find out if it's a W3 transponder - just wondering if that's what the complete Alhambra keys came with or not (I realise 7M3 959 753 only covers the remote part)??

I got the transponder out of the spare key that came with the car so that I still got the original key working, the switchblade one working and the spare one with a good blade but no transponder,,,

IIRC you can reprogram the transponder in the key but it'll be pretty costy while swapping the transponder from an old key is free,,,

I'm pretty sure I have my SKC on the original plastic tag at home so I could reprogram it myself with VAG-COM, so long as the transponder is compatible?

My spare key is exactly that, just a key - no remote central locking capabilities or built-in transponder :(

EDIT - well, no transponder I'm aware of, it looks too thin to have one?? Did your spare key have remote central locking buttons?

Looking back over this thread it looks like we need an AKTP1 transponder, though this is listed as pre-98:

Here's an AKTP1:

AKTP2:

The first pic above looks like an AKTP1 to me??

I didn't in the end no, must have got distracted with other shiny toys

I'd have to look back into it all again to confirm any of the above now, unless anyone else has cracked it

they're extremely rare. I can get them brand new from my key supplier but they're a fraction under £100 :wtf: which is nuts considering the Ibiza/Leon remotes cost less than half that. I've no idea why that particular remote is so expensive

I'd suggest keep looking on ebay till 1 pops up.
