FK Highsports clunking noise

Hi,

I have a clunking springy type noise that comes from the nearside FK Highsports coilover.

This noise seems to be only coming when turning at parking speed (i.e. three point turns) or when parking up.

I have noticed its mainly near to full lock too. Garage says its normal for this to happen, and is only the noise of the spring turning.

Just wondering whether anyone hear has had this from their front coilovers and what they did to sort it, or is it actually normal and should i just live with it?

thanks

could be the spring but doubtful as coilover springs are flat at the top/bottom unlike normal springs,so doubtful they will catch etc, could be a knackered strut top, were these changed when you fitted the coilovers? because it is recomended o do so, cost about 8 quid each, if its not these, i had a problem quite a while agoand one of the shocks had leaked.

when were they fitted?

Thanks for your reply.

When they were fitted the strut top mounts, bolts, and the bearing were all replaced for genuine parts. All bushings and ARB is fine, and the uprated ARB links were fitted too.

The highsports were 2 months used when I got them, but were absolute mint condition - as new basically.

I had them fitted in October, and the noise started in November so had the garage to strip, check them, and they were re-assembled.

The noise went but after a month now they've started it again. Theres only a cm of thread left at the moment. The garage the originally installed them though said to me because they are very low the spring is obviously not too tight against the strut top and shocker hence the noise, which is normal. But i'm not sure as i raised that side a bit and it became louder instead.

I only hear it from the near side and its ONLY when at parking speed and near full lock. If i do a u-turn or go around a roundabout at over 10mph its absolutely normal.

Mine was clunking coz i never replaced the top mount bearing so the spring had to rotate in the cups. Bit of a faux pas by myself, but i replaced them last week and havent had a single clunk since. :D

When my original shocks were removed they were noticably worn so I replaced the top mount bearings as it would have only costed more on the long run. Just to add to my last post, that when the car is idle there is no clunking when steering lock to lock, just at parking speed. thanks

Seems to be sorted now. PhilW found your previous post whilst doing a search. I tried what some other people said on your post, but instead of using copper grease I used silicone lubricant as i werent sure about using copper grease on the mounts. Anyway so far so good, no clunk so far :)

Where to grease?

Where exactly do you grease to cure the "spoing" sound from the FK coilovers?

Is it at the contact surface between the lower cup and the spring?

Thanks!

Hi Just thought i would add some info to this link, i had what sounds like a simular problem with my weitec coilovers - the noise at low speed when turning etc but my problem turned out more dramatic than needing more lube on then. In the end it turned out that the drop links were catching and this resulted in them bending dramatically until one snapped!!

thankfully the car was with Awesome when this happend so was all fixed with some new shortend drop links! talk about being in the right place at the right time!
