You get the sealant from any VAG dealership.

i have done one in the past would rather a gasket personally but hey ho must use what VAG says

Plenty of guides on youtube (search 1.8t sump removal) you'll be fine. Make sure you clean the oil pick up gauze, clean the old sealant off mating surfaces properly, smear the sealant on and make sure it goes on the inside of the holes not outside.

Might as well just change the pick up pipe when you are there. They are cheap enough
