I'd have thought that was a stupid place to put it? Not only is it more exposed - but if someone (or you) decides to prang your front bumper - you need new ballasts. Surely?
vibrations won't brake them as most will say there viration tested, but some ballasts are not top quallity so i always used to do it can't do any harm can it??. I have fitted many kits on Hyundais as i was the first person in the Club to put them on my coupe and it has been somin i have always done. Don't have to do it but it just stopps metal on metal. Most will say splash/water proof and vibration tested, but theres 4 or 5 people i know from Bucks Vag and the MK IV golf forums who have had there blow by water damage, so what they say isn't always 100% correct.. Might just help thats all.
All the standard ballasts, such as the ones in the Subauru, will be of much higher quality then the cheep after market kits. a new hella ballast for a BMW is £250 for example
Looking in my engine bay i honestly can see anyware else where they can go securly, unless you put them under the light unit? like most BMW's.
You could say the same for puting them in the the wings.
They were non genuine xenons - had been fitted by the owner.
And all I will say is that you need one HELL of a hit for it to smack the inner wing whereas you don't need a hard it at all for it to get hit on the front slam panel.
Your Mk4 Golf friends have probably had their ballasts go cos they've all put them behind their bumpers!
