I couldnt see why not as you can change settings with the SPS.

Its working well with Si's and he is running his standard mapping i believe, just at higher boost!

Yes i think Si has found the inbetween between KO4 and IHI.

Its certainly worth thinking about as the way i see it you dont waste money on all the other accessories needed for a BT upgrade!

Direct bolt on to existing manifold, meaning yes james your downpipe and TIP are just fine:D However change to go BT and you would need a new manifold/downpipe and tip along with a lot more bits and bobs:)

Group buy anyone:D

James, ill have to speak to mike actually about nitrous mapping as i would like to stay with jabba as i have the boost controller fitted:)

as for GB on hydrid... thats us 3 already lol... u me and scott! :whistle:


obviously we would all need a remap to get the best out of this new turbo.

so is that literally it? new plug and play turbo with a new map?!

sounds easy!

but then again another point is, who would we get to map it?! who will have the experiance? im sure mike would do a very good job... but would i have to pay another £475 to him? or maybe an extra £50/100 as i already have his map? :shrug: im pretty sure he would just be able to adjust the map already on my car to suit the new turbo! and thus just charge a small amount.

and we can change some settings with CC software! ;)


tho im sure it cant up the boost anymore! :(

Well im up for it as long as i can get revo to work well with it as other wise id have to add another £500 for a new remap (ok it would work better but it almost doubles the cost)

Do you wnat to start a new thread about the turbo and see who else is intrested?

Not really, it's a hybrid K04-23. It has a different compressor wheel in it, the turbine housing has had some material removed and the turbine wheel has been clipped. Sie had his ceramic coated, an option Buehn offer. I think it definitely needs a 3" dp+cat back to get the most out of it. And a custom map, obviously :D (unless a generic Stage 3 would do)

You won't find much info about Buehn, he seems to keep himself to himself, doing very nicely on reputation alone, selling hybrids to the S4/RS4 boys in the states. His forum name is Imolavirus on Audiworld (where I found him) and a few others - gooling will turn up quite a bit of info.

Yes im sure a groupbuy of around 5 people would bring the price down a bit.

Im not too sure if you would have to pay for another full remap or whether mike could just tweak the existing map!

Si also had a larger MAF housing fitted (£75ish) and 4 bar FPR (£40-50)

But i believe that is it, the 4 bar just for added safety with fuelling and not sure if the larger maf housing is a neccessity?

Scotty if we find out if he is open for negotiation on price with a bulk order yes i think a new thread would be required for a group buy! He can send in 1 shipment also, saving individual seperate shipping fees!

You'd probably get more out of the Buehn engineering one still running standard Revo/APR/Jabba/whatever mapping - mine Revo requests about 1.4 bar at the redline, so it'll make the turbo do it if it can.

Looking at Sie's plot from Awesome though, it needs better control lower down than it's getting (as we've discussed). It's a bit "all over the place".

That big wad of torque makes hoofing it in 1,2,3 is "fun" though, even with his diff :drive1: I think he was still on 90% boost (v-tune) when I had a go :whistle:

Edit: I don't mean you'll get more out of a standard map than a custom map, I mean you'll get more than the stock turbo with the hybrid even with the same map.

Sounds good, if i can get a nice deal on it i would be tempted to get a custom map (as being stg 2 i already have 4 bar FPR)

Be nice to see soem more info on the kit tho as id convinced myself not to bother with BT! Wonder if there 360 ball bearings?

Its shown a 30whp improvement on Si's car which is the proof in the pudding.

His last mapping was around 245ish @ wheels @ awesome. this 1 273 @ wheels @ awesome.

Like phil has said it might not even require re- remapping, if the requested boost at redline for us james is 1.3-1.4 bar then it shouldnt need touching!

If ive got time tomorrow ill register on his site and try and negotiate a group buy deal :)

So its a biog differnce to stock? Would lik eto see our cars side by side to see the rough differnce in power


i cant see it being a big difference from stock as i wasnt that impressed with IHI! :(

but for the money and performance increase it sounds worth it! :)

I can't remember if it has different bearings or not, I know it has a different backplate and Sie's mentioned it's supposed to have a lower shaft speed than the stock one.

4bar for safety - basically to make sure it's overfuelling (i.e. not running lean) before checking A/F ratio. Jacob recommends larger MAF to make the most, but IHI boys run S3/TT/LCR MAFs (although some "scaled") on more power :shrug:

If you're going to get one, my advice would be to make sure you budget for a remap, unless you like living in fear of something going expensively wrong. Also, you'll know it's running at it's best.

you know i think mike would do us boys , well you and me a quick adjustment for free or like £50... reason why i say this is because he adjusted my boost and acturator maps recently as i cured a few problems i had which where present when he mapped it (hence why i only just got 270bhp). took him longer to upload the new maps then to adjust them!

he is very good at what he does, i always ask lots of questions (forget the answers tho! :doh: ) and mike showed me the new maps and explained them to me!


so therefore without doubt he could play with the boost in our maps to compensate with the new turbo.


but then again... i assume mike hasnt mapped one of these turbos before, and maybe he may insist on one us us goin on the RR so he can find out the difference; what he can push them to compared to standard k04? i dont know... worth asking!

i would deffo get my map changed as whats the point in changing the turbo if u dont get the best out of it! ;)

its just whether i have to pay £50 or £500 will make the difference!


as for the MAF... like you say, if i had IHI i would use my current MAF! so why upgrade?! :shrug: im sure you could get away without upgrading... but if i was advised to i would.

Edit: Oh and I have nagged Sie to get a thread started, but he's wanting to run it for a bit and get it all fully checked out on a rolling road (fuelling, boost & timing settings etc) before he posts up, so you know the full story.

Also, I wouldn't ost on Jacobs forums asking for a discount, I'd email him ;)
