Thanks for the info guys, it doesn't feel fuel blockage related mind. Mine only stutters at 2,500 revs and under slight load, if I boot it it never stutters. It feels sort of software related, like it can't make up it's mind about something and stutters. But then again it's has a software update and still stutters, also if it was a software glitch everyone would have the same problem.

Just dropped it off at the dealers now, they have it for 2 days, fingers crossed.

I'll post the results when I get it back.

Hey Murts, just got back from a week down Cornwall and mine has been doing exactly the same as yours coming back. At practically bang on 80mph, which is around 2500rpm on the way back it periodically stuttered when I lifted off the throttle and kinda 'hovered' before putting my foot back down. Must have done it half a dozen times in 300 miles:(
Not much fun on a brand new car when you are already driving around with flaming rattles and vibration noises:(
PLEASE let me know how you got on - Ted Johnsons is my nearest dealer so I will refer this thread to them.

Got a cracked fog lamp lense on the way back as well to top it off:cry:

Okay I believe the problem has been fixed. I'll give it a full road test of a 250 round trip to Newcastle tomorrow but the intial signs are very good.

I'm not a car/engine technical person but......

The Problem.
It would apear to be a problem with recirculating the exhaust gases back into the engine, too much was been let back in under certain conditions (hovering at around 2,500 revs) which would choke the engine, hence the stutter.

The Fix.
The EGR exhaust pipe gaskit was replaced with a smaller one to stop the excess gas getting back into the engine, apparently a very quick and cheap fix.

The Thanks.
The guys down at Richard Alexander in Huddersfield have been top notch, no sign of been fobbed off at all. They have really put the time and effort into looking into this problem.

For more Info.
Give Richard Alexander a ring 01484 360050 and ask to speak to Chris Ellison, he is the guy that has done all the diagnostics and found the fix. He can repeat this problem manually now and is going to speak to SEAT technical to find out if this is an approved solution.

Excellent, thanks for that Murts.

I am going to pm Nigel West at Ted Johnson's in a minute to brief him/his service manager on the problem. They have looked after me well so far so I'm sure this will be no different.

Hope the longer test tomorrow proves a success!

I really hope that's sorted it for you :)
If it has then kudos to Richard Alexander. I think all service departments should put in the time and effort to actually diagnose the fault properly. It's a shame that so many don't seem to.

I'm sure the initial outlay in time (and money) would save them far more in the long run, especially if it's one of those faults that's easy and cheap to fix.
Next time someone comes in with a similar problem they could just do the same sort of fix, cheaply and quickly at first.... and if that doesn't fix it, do a bit more investigating.

Is there any sense in what I just posted.

Just got back from Newcastle and not a single stutter, I'm well happy.

It's simple little annoying problems like this that can ruin what is otherwise a splendid car, I hope everyone else who is experiencing this gets it fixed.

Thanks again Richard Alexander SEAT in Huddersfield.

I called Richard Alexander in Huddersfield last week. Chris was off sick and another chap said that although they were aware of the problem they were waiting for Seat to approve the method of fixing before doing any more.

I guess that's fair enough - sure they don't want any comeback and unapproved warranty claims from Seat if they do something wrong!

Guess I'm lucky that I hardly do any motorway driving cos I already feel like it's just another tick in the 'negatives with the Leon' column. Good job the positives are outweighing for the time being.

I mentioned this to my dealer a couple of weeks back and they wasnt aware of this. So I'll bring this thread to their attention and see if they'll do something.

Hi folks, this is my first post here, so be gentle. Glad i found this 'thread' because my 20tdi is doing the exact same as everyone elses. It's a real pain for me as i do alot of mway miles and at 80mph in 6th your doing, guess what, 2500rpm. As others have mentioned it only happens with a light load on the peddle, if you floor it, there's no prob. What people might find interesting is that this is on a car that is on a 57 plate and has only done a 1000 miles. Seat obviously havent got a 'fix' for this yet in production.

new version of the leon, 20ltr!!

Slight load you mean a small movement in the pedal and get the dropp out of power for a second. I cant figure it out aprt from a previous thread on the EGR gasket being changed to narrow the gap inside.

Well its going to be a good couple of weeks until I can get to the dealers. Broken collar bones tend to stop me from driving. :(

I had a Golf 2.0 TDI 140 as a hire car whilst my insurance write off was being sorted out.
This had the stutter & a work colleague had another Golf 2.o TDI 140 which had it too.

Strangely, my Leon doesn't have the stutter. Or at least I haven't noticed it in the 3 weeks I had it. Maybe it's had the EGR gasket fix???

When I spoke with the salesman at the dealers, he said that the 1.9's had a remap update due to this same issue.

Interesting to read this thread... I had exactly the same problem as this on my previous car, a Focus 1.8 TDCI Titanium, which the dealer had several times and despite various repairs was unable to fix (hence my getting shot of it and getting the Leon). From what other posters have said (eg the person who had the Peugeot HDI in the past) it would suggest this is a common problem with turbo diesels across the board!

On the bright side, I haven't seen this happen with my Leon - which I'm glad about as I would have just lost the plot had this car done it as well!!!
