Engine oil out of oil seals - LCR - normal?

Ive just spoken with a Seat dealer regarding a car I was looking to buy. The inspection showed up oil around the pulley end of the engine - so the owner kindly had it taken back to Seat for them to inspect. Ive just been told myself from the SEAT dealer that this oil coming out of the engine block is a 'normal phenomenon with all cars'. Ive never heard that before and from my experience oil is either burnt or comes out of the engine because a seal is on its way out....

Anyone else had any experience of this on their LCR?

Or am I being paranoid..car is '04 plate done 19.5k?

Sounds like a load of balls to me to. Bear in mind salesmen will tell you anything...

"That steam pissing out of the bonnet? Perfectly normal sir!"

Totally agree...I cant believe 'breathing oil' out of the engine block is normal....thats the start of an oil seal or worse going.....didnt beleive a word of it - which is why Ive decided not to buy the car.

Its called an oil seal, because it seals the oil in. Otherwise, its just a hole. The crap some people will tell you to sell you a car.

Exactly, this was a private sale where my inspection showed this up so the owner put it into dealer - this is what the dealer told the owner and myself.....

All I can say for sure is none of the LCR's I looked at had oil looks, and the one I bought certainly doesn't have an oil leak.

This is all making me feel much better about my decision and my opinion on the problem - which is making me feel much better about blowing £200 on the inspection....reckon Ive saved myself a problem later down the line.
