Hello everyone. I am in need of help

I hav a mk4 Ibiza. The engine started stumbling in low revs and resulted in a misfire ..replaced all the plugs which stopped the miss firing. However the engine seems to judder when idling/low revs and feels very grumpy engaging 1st gear but then its fine over 1200ish revs. Its driving me mad! Anyone any clues/ have the similar problem? cheers

Coil pack might need replacing possibly..... Usually when one fails it tends to be consistent across the rev range i.e. either you're missing a cylinder or you're not but occasionally when it's dying it can be intermittent. What's the engine in it?

Hi mate my ibiza is doing the same, my problem is the 2nd valve is sticking and the cylinder is losing compression so have to pay a lot to remove the head gasket to fix it, had a quote from a stealer £700 but its a terrible garage so looking else where just now.

tcm1106 could be right had mines change but still has a misfire hopefully yours is a coil pack problem a lot cheaper to fix.

shame you didnt live next to newcastle mate i could have plugged it up and ran a test on it, just unplug your coil's one at a time if the engine changes when you pull coil out it means that coil pack is working but if you pull one out and engine stays the same its fooked, but only pull one out at a time then replace it b4 pulling number two out etc :) hope this helps

That doesn't necessarily show that its the coil pack though, the cylinder might not be firing for other reasons. Pulling HT leads out whilst running the engine isn't a particularly good idea either firstly as you can quite easily get a nasty shock and secondly if the engine in question is the 1.2 then you could end up with the non-firing cylinder, disconnecting another cylinder and then you'd be left with one cylinder trying to fire..... Engine's not going to like that

Cheers chaps for the advice. It has its MoT tomorow so not looking forward to that.

yes its a 1.2 - changed the plugs and Ran a strong dose of redEX through it, even did 600-7000 rph for 30 seconds down motorway to see if it was just soot!!

Its bugging me cos when it starts up and its cold it runs fine and sum days it dont grumble at all!!..only when it gets to correct running temp of 90*c it starts playing up and i have to give it extra beans when settting off/ engaging the clutch. it couldnt be to do with a thermostat or some sort of heat coil?!

clutching at straws here!!

everything your saying is identical to my problem also costing me in petrol having to rev the engine higher all the time. mines went in for its MOT last week with this problem and passed with no problems, tester said to me when I picked it up engines sound a little rough then gave me my MOT

i had probs with a split air intake pipe behind the engine. i thought it was a coil pack and she ran rough !! and the engine management flickered and then stayed on eventually. Took it to my garage expecting a new coil pack etc and he traced it to this plastic pipe which had split both ends. not even a clip on each end!!! just heat sealed grrrrrrrrr now i have a brake hose fitted on there with jubalee clips. id like to see the bugger break now!!!
