Had my fr150 for 2 years now and before it ran out of warranty I had 7 glow plugs fitted at the stealers.
knowing it was due to run out I purchased a lead and vag com off ebay as the stealer told me it will be £70 a pop if it needs any more.
I recently had the engine management light on the dashboard come on again and vag com says its a glow plug intermittent fault, if i clear the fault it goes away for a few days then comes back on with a different glow plug number but still saying intermittent fault.
I have tested the resistance of the plugs and they are spot on no plugs needed.
Its doing my head in now can some one shed some light on this for me, any one had or got the same problem.

cheers

Its the bridge connector to the plugs themselves. The replacement cost is £18 you can fit it yourself battery out job and will take approx 1 hour. I had the same problem and replaced the connector and not had the problem since.

If the glow plug light comes on & flashes while the engine is running am I right in saying this can mean any fault in relation to "engine management"....................while it was doing this the Engine ran perfectly well.................it happened immediately after I had started the engine.............but subsequent re starts showed no problem.
I did recall later that the first start (the one that the light came on after) was a bit laboured .........it was like I had not used the car for a long time & just needed a bit more time !!!!!.............thinking about it all the other restarts that I did last night were still while the engine was warm..........so maybe it will do it again from a cold start ?
Anyway, question still the same does that flashing light mean a multiple of things ?

Cheers Glynnd

Sounds promising certainly give it a go for £18
Is there any way of testing to see if the part is faulty if not, dont suppose you know the part number, if i have to start to even try to explain to my local garage i'll be there all day.

cheers

let me know if you are struggling off the vagcat site. I have the part number in my file at home. There are 2 types depending on the year of your car.
I had the fault with mine and replaced all the glow plugs and the fault kept moving to different plugs!
I am almost sure if you repalce the bridge connector the fault will go.
A good sign is to erase the code and watch each time you start the car. If the fault is down to the bridge the light will come on only when you are starting the car and not after the engine has started to run. If its like mine it can go for 3 months all good then come on. Erase the code and the light can come on the next morning, no pattern to it!

Wardy this should be the number.
038971782b
When I bought mine they gave the the wrong one which has only 2 wires and no plug.
It should have 4 wires and a multi plug.
As yours is an 05 plate it will be the 4 wire bridge.
Chop off the multi plug and wire into the loom just above the gearbox.

Remove the engine cover.
The bridge connects to all 4 glow plugs.
Trace the loom back underneath the battery
You will need to remove the battery from is location to get access to pomint where it passes over the gearbox.
Its an easy job really.
Any probs lem me know

Lads need more help

Got supplied the wrong part today, 2 wire harness instead of 4 wire with plug, only realised the mistake after stripping the car.
My question is where does the harness plug in, I took out the battery, the air filter and I can see where the main loom goes up into the bulkhead any clues lads.

any help appreciated
cheers

Easiest way is to chop off the plug and splice into the loom above the gearbox.Thats how I did mine.
But if you want to fit the plug there is some plastic ducting engine bay side of the bulkhead behind the air box. If you remove the cover you will see the multi plug, but its a right job to undo all the loom covering to fit it when its so much easier to do it as above.
