Hey guys

I'm just doing.some reading and YouTube watching and recently started.learning about EGR Valves.

Can anyone shed light on:

1) Do all cars have EGR - as it always seems to be diesel engines when I watch.people work on them

2) Does my car have one: Seat ibiza mk5 sc 1.4 2009

Thanks again

Yes your car has one. Diesels tend to have more problems with them due to soot build up

Typically, the EGR valve in these 1.4 16V Petrol engines do not soot up or give any regular problems, though the very "odd" one might fail.

I have only ever had an issue with the area where the exhaust gasses gets routed back into the inlet manifold getting "gummed" up with the hot exhaust mixing with the oil mist in that area, and that only occurred after about 75K miles, clearing that mess out removed that "low flow" issue that was being logged.

Where abouts would you find it. I'm curious to simply know I am looking at it?

Hum, I've just had a look and I can't find it, so maybe the EGR valve was deleted when that engine was revised up to being a BXW! I'll check the parts listing for that version of the 1.4 16V and edit this post.

Edit:- sorry I can't find any reference to an EGR valve on the 1.4 16V 86PS BXW petrol engine in the parts list I was looking at, so that ties in with what I did not see on the late 2009 Ibiza outside my house!

Ok then?? See this is my wonder. As some are saying all cars have them and then others saying.only diesels etc. I think I just stumbled in one.of those topics e.g normal petrol vs premium type of a thing lol

I'm guessing that fitting an EGR system to a car engine, is just a crude/cheap way to clean up the emissions to advance that engine up to the next Euro rating. It could be that when VW Group revised that engine up to its BWX version, that they discovered that the emissions were low enough so they did not need to keep the EGR system. It was a horrible and crude system that just grabbed some of the exhaust from cylinder 4 and stuffed it back into the engine's air inlet as and when conditions dictated it would be useful!
