Hi All,

So I’ve got a Leon cupra 290 black edition & it’s booked in with ecotune Scotland for stage 1 remap & dsg tune next Fri. I’ve never done this to any of my previous cars & now it’s getting closer to the day I’m a bit nervous about it & wondering if it’s actually worth doing. As much as I’d like to have it done I’d hate to do any damage to my car.

If you’ve done this to your cupra have you had any issues with it post tune?

I’ve had a look through the forum but couldn’t find the info I’m looking for so apologies if this has been asked a million times already

cheers

Do a search on here, I posted a link to a youtube video a few weeks ago which was basically everything you ever wanted to know about DSG gearboxes. Basically, they're as tough as old boots and can handle a lot of power if looked after correctly.

Stage 1 dont really over push the limits of the car as it's for the stock set up

Cars are set up to accept a varying of different country climates, a stage 1 just enhances the stock set up , gives you better mpg when driven as normal

If you find the power enough now, no point in additional stress and wear on the engine in my opinion. I've just gone for the power stock rather than remapping up to it and haven't had issues. I find 300 more than enough for the roads. That's my opinion lol

@C19Cupra
I’ve been quoted £662.33 with rolling road & performance print outs for the APR ECU tune. For the dsg gearbox it’s £689.04

I really like my car, I almost traded it for a golf r a few weeks ago but just couldn’t bring myself to part with her, so then I thought I’d do the ecu tune but like yourself I’m a bit wary & as Steve J says I don’t want to add any stress onto the engine etc.

The ea888 is a strong engine and you have the strongest variant , there wont be much extra force exhorted on any of the components at stage 1 your talking a bit extra fuelling and a few extra PSI

If your not a million miles away from nuneaton then enquire with R TECH he now maps the ea888 tsi and he is one of the best tuners for tfsi and now the tsi in the country

Dont sweat it , get it mapped and enjoy your new found power

Get it done. Stage 1 transforms the car. As standard it’s quick but always feels it’s being held back. Stage 1 it comes alive but can still deal with the extra power. You can’t be as binary with the throttle in 1st and 2nd any more though (or 4th if it’s wet!). Would suggest knocking ESC off a bit as well so it doesn’t get reined in all the time.

In terms of avoiding damage the DSG tune is the most important part. It’ll stop the clutches slipping which is usually the biggest concern with remaps.

These cars are over engineered and then brought back in line with software so no one stops looking at RS4s/6s. Got to maintain the VAG hierarchy.

I also found a remap helped get better fuel economy when driving normally too so good for the environment…

I can understand that you are nervous about doing the tune, I was too!
Just like you I decided tot do a remap for both the engine (ECU) and DSG (TCU), because they belong together, but I also upgraded the air intake path.
I had this all done at TVS Engineering almost a year ago and I'm still very happy with the result: 397 PK (391 HP) and 528 Nm (389,5 lbft).
A review of that tune can be found here.

This all depends on who does the Dsg remap Revo for one does not alter the clamping pressure but just the shifting points.

That’s true. IIRC the Revo map keeps the torque within manufacturers limits (450nm I think?) but other maps go higher and this is where the extra clamping pressure comes in.

I think a stage 1 revo can go between 440-482 nm so just on the limit if you get a good one.
