So update on the driving in snow :

3 - 4 inches of snow, i cleared enough to turn the car and hit another cars tracks....

needless to say the car handles like a beast in snow, it just doesnt want to go in a straight line, and turning traction control off doesnt make too much difference either.

bugger.

Thought i'd just edit a bit at the top and add a bit more info after having the car for a few months now.

Still super cheap to run, average MPG with driving to work in rush hour etc and motorway driving is 60mpg in the last 1500 miles.

Motorways at 70 average about 68mpg at 80 average about 60mpg

driving to work in rush hour gets me about 60mpg (takes 40mins)

driving home from work in rush hour gets me 50mpg (takes an hour)

Nothings annoyed me so far about it, sometimes the trip computer breaks in that it tries to tell you to change gear at 3000 revs instead of 2000 or change down when its blatently fine, not sure what causes this yet, im guessing its something to do with the bluetooth / iphone dock as its usually when it breaks when im changing albums or whatever.

Great figures. I have a new Cupra coming today, I'm sure I read somewhere it's almost as economical lol

Thanks for the update PaulieB - great figures you have there. How many miles total have you done yet (do you think it's still going to loosen up a bit and improve)?

Can't wait to get my Ecomotive 1.6CR in a couple of months!

Are you a V-Power Club member by any chance? Their freebie magazine, V-Zine, arrived in my post yesterday and included an interesting piece on driving from London to Monaco on one tank. They used a VW Passat 1.6CR BlueMotion (saloon), a Volvo V50 1.6 DRIVe Stop/Start (estate) and a Ford Focus 1.6 Econetic TDCi (hatch)... made very interesting reading.
The Ford needed a top-up of diesel about 100 miles from the finish, the Volvo made it but had almost no fuel left, but the VW comfortably made it with trip average mpg of 84.1 - way higher than it's official consumption figure. The writers claimed that with it's large 70 litre tank, the Passat would have a range of approx 1,300 miles for similar driving conditions - simply amazing! :)

As for your comments on driving in snow, I'm sure that your Leon would be just fine with the right (winter) tyres on. I took the plunge last year and bought some Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3s online, delivered pre-fitted to basic black steel rims. Best money I've spent on the car... they really got me out of trouble a few times over this last winter and there's an unavoidable feeling of smugness as you drive past abandoned 4x4s. If you live in the sticks, I'd highly recommend getting some. ;)
