Doesnt this make my Leon Mk1 dated ?

I prefer the mk1 personally....

The new leon although i expect is a better car, in a number of elements just looks to much like a people carrier and other euro clone boxes for me...

Just say no...

Surrey darling...
I like the mk2 but only with that kit and wheel combo! Would like to move onto a mk2 Cupra after the LCR but that won't be for another couple of years yet and there may well be something better by then :D

A comparison of the interiors would show the MK2 up IMHO. And the glovebox! Geez!

I was so disappointed when I sat in the MK2 FR after owning the MK1. Perhaps I was expecting too much but it really underwhelmed me.

I'll wager the naysayers have never driven one properly (or at all)

The single thing that's bad about the Mk2 Leon is the HUGE rear view mirror.

... I would add the A pillar gets in the way and the rear view (when reversing) is not the best.

Answer to the question though IMO - yes it does make it look dated I suppose but doesnt mean it looks better, the LCR was a great looking car in its day.

I heard through the grape vine (so dont quote this as gospel) that the Mk2 was deliberately made to a lesser build quality as the mk1 was selling so well that golf sales dropped significantly. Like I say, its just something I heard so dont throw ban signs at me!

Isn't it more to do with the independant rear suspension costing more to produce than the old beam set up so to keep the price down the interior isn't as nice?

Cant help thinking that seat had one hand tied behind there back when it came to the mk2 leon, more so the cupra, maybe with mk1 they had more of a free hand to do there own thing, everyones got an opinion but dont think mk 2 cupra looks special enough.

I have a MK1 Leon 1.6 16v, and a MK2 Leon Cupra. I used to own a 2004 old style Toledo 1.8T tuned to 250bhp. I think I am well placed to compare old vs new in looks, build and performance :)

My humble opinion is that build is better in the MK2. The only thing that lets the MK2 down is the centre part of the dash (what were they thinking - it looks really cheap). The MK1 is dated next to the MK2 to be honest and the MK2 is better to drive. I do however love the MK1 as it is a reliable workhorse. Looks wise, the LCR was the best looking MK1 Leon in my opinion, but a MK2 Leon Cupra with black wheels, side skirts and rear spoiler also looks fabulous.

Performance wise, the 2.0T is superior to the old 1.8T regardless of it being a AUQ 180bhp or BAM 225bhp version. It is smoother and more powerful.

Click here to see a standard MK2 Leon Cupra race against an unmapped MK1 LCR with turbo back exhaust

However I really don't like the Aero/BTCC kit on the MK2.

The problem the new Civic Type R has, this is nicer inside but handling not as good as the first.

As for the comments on the interior of the Mk2, I agree - one of the reasons I didnt get one.

LCR was ace though, very hard car to replace.

Yo

mOrk has it in a nutshell!

With no disrespect to Mk1 owners. Before slagging off the Mk2 try a test drive.

I must agree with this - the mk2 is a fantastic drive - I've driven both the diesel and the petrol and both are great in their own rights
