Disable Kessy keyless entry

I've read elsewhere that you can temporarily disable Kessy by locking using the key and then pressing the dimple on the handle within 5 seconds.

However when I do this and press the dimple, it immediately unlocks the car again.

What am I doing wrong?

The procedure for temporarily disabling keyless entry is outlined in the owner’s manual - page 101 in the Nov 2021 edition - page 101 (If your manual is an earlier version, the procedure to do this might be on a different page).

I think what you may be doing when you’re touching the sensor on the driver’s external door handle, you might gripping the handle. If you do this, then the car will Immediately unlock again. You must only touch the sensor on the outside of the handle without gripping the handle.

Yes that must have been it, thanks. I got it working fine now.

On a related topic, how is the steering lock engaged? I'm used to locking it manually after removing the key.
Does it lock automatically when the car is locked?

On my VW (a 2020 Polo GTI+ with keyless entry / keyless start), when the engine is switched off by pressing the keyless start / stop button, the steering lock automatically engages once the engine has stopped. I do always have the front wheels pointing in the straight ahead position though, so the steering wheel is in the position where the steering lock would also automatically engage if I had a conventional ignition key slot.

I don’t know if the steering lock would automatically engage if the steering wheel is turned to the left of right before turning off the engine; I’ve never tried this. Perhaps that’s something you could try.
