Fair enough... Seems odd though. Make 2 cars identical pretty much bar a few things.

But as other people have said I think Pedro just got bored and stuck whatever he could find in the factory that day and stuck it on haha

Having read all this, I'm glad mine is a pre-facelift.
At least then it is a GTi
Or is it a GT?
Or is it GTE....

Pedro was getting in some early practice in for later cupra badge engineering!

Doesn't the cupra sport also have less sound deadening stuff in it to save a bit of weight ?

Mine is a 99-V Cupra Sport (says so on the log book), ABS, no AC, no sunroof

LOL on my 16v's old V5, it had the wrong chassis number on it, and most MK3 Cupras are registered as 5 doors.

I was under the impression GTIs had air con and Cupra Sports didn't! How wrong was I! Was aircon ever an option on the 8v?

now you know why the phrase 'beeza' is banded about :p

throw in the '16v' and the various 'options at dealers' and its way too much fun

anyone want heated seats ;) they feel good

my 8v's got no sunroof, does have ABS, is badged & stickered as a Gti & CupraSport, has Gti stitching on the seats & has an exhaust from a 16v as standard/from the factory. Yeah, only realised that when the exhaust place spent ages trying to fit a new 8v exhaust to the downpipe & couldn't figure out why it wouldn't tighten up - the 16v tube is a few mm bigger. Anyhow, mate of mine had an 8v WITH a factory fitted sunroof, no aircon & no ABS either. Badged & stickered as Gti & CupraSport.

Why are you not wanting it to be a CupraSport? I thought they all were & just the older 1.8's were Gti's?

8v Cupra is 1 group higher insurance than the 8v GTi (11 vs 10) so although the GTi should have a better spec, it is actually cheaper to insure!

Pre facelift and back in 1993 at introduction, there was an 2.0 8v, officially known as a GT, but badged as a GTi on front, rear, steering wheel and seats. I have one of these. It had no abs, no aircon, no airbags, and although mine has a sunroof, I think it was an option as I've seen other 1994 GTi s without.

For the 1994 model year only, there was an additional car, the GTE, which had the same engine but I believe it had ABS and / or Driver's airbag as standard.

The GTE trim was only available for that one model year, it was deleted for 1995 (i.e. on the road autumn 1994 onwards) when the GTi was given ABS and I believe the airbag as standard. The 1.8 16v with 130bhp arrived in 1995 I think as well. No idea what the spec of those were.

I've just stumbled across this thread, and thought i'd put my 2p's worth in :)

as the previous owner of Craig87's car...i'd also questioned whether this was a GTi or a CupraSport...and wen I went to the SEAT dealer...they actually said it was listed on their system as a CupraSport...so the plot thickens!!

Seems like they just called it whatever they wanted?! seems to be no 'written' rule on what 8v's were CupraSports or just GTi's?!!!
