The glow plug lamp doubles as the EML on diesels, which any fault with anyone of the 20-30 sensors & actuators could trigger. The fact the vehicle is going into limp mode (reduced running) does narrow it down a bit i.e. something that could have a detrimental affect on the engine is its not right. All to easy to blame DPF cos of a few vehicles have had issues but a fault on the dpf system would normally put dpf & coil lamps on.
The nature of the fault would suggest possible wiring but if you can find out what fault is actually stored in the ECU i'd have a better idea.
You say its had a revo??? have they tried it without? worth ruling out any issues there.

I do have Revo but it has been fine since I have had the car and has only decided to play up now! What could be done to fix it if it is a Revo fault? I would love to find the fault code but i do not know anyone with a VAG com in Cardiff area :(

Hi All,

I know this thread has been dead for a while but my car has the same original symtoms. Fairly regulary the throttle/accelerator stops responding and after a min the Glowplug warning light flashes, so I did a diagnostics and it says the throttle positioning sensor is intermittent.

All was fine until the day I carried out a annual service Oil, Air, Fuel filter change, all appeared fine car started fine took for usual 3mile round trip test drive that I do after any maintence and no issues.

Lady then started it an hour later to fetch the kid from school and it went in to limp mode with glow light flashing.

So I jumped in shut it down and started up again and it cleared, so I proceeded to drive to the school when about 3 miles along it did the same and cleared after shut down and restart was fine.

I'm wavering towards air in the fuel filter system but this is the 3rd service I've done with no issues in the past, so could it just be Sods law that its the Accelerator pedal?? and coincidently failed at the same time as the service!!

Hope some one has a suggestion, but till then I'm going to spend an hour or 2 re-primming the filter.

It wont cure it, it's an electrical fault, either the tps, the ecu or a bad connection somewhere. When I had the issue it ended up the ecu was soaked but if yours is a leon it could be the tps is just acting up.

Feared that it might be the TPS, must just be a major coincidence that it occured the same day I was messing with the fuel system :( will have to be nosey in the footwell and see if there's a dodgy connection. Really hope it aint the ECU even though If it was the ECU I assume there maybe other faults also.

Thanks Seatmann

Google the fault code and see what comes up, see what the issue was on other folks cars, the same tps will be used on a number of other cars.

Warning lights

This is down to the Diesel Particulate Filter being blocked up, it happened to me four times in total. This type of diesel vehicle with a DPF system is not meant for an 'about town' type of car. I got my money back on my Seat Ibiza after over a year of fighting the dealer.

Google DPF systems and find out as much as you can.

My ex-Seat Ibiza also showed the glow plug warning light for a while, then went into 'limp mode'. The dealer nor Seat Head Office in Milton Keynes were able to sort it out.

I do hope you haven't bought my ex-Seat, it was blue 3 door and the last bit of the reg was HPV and it was a 2009 plate. Seat Ibiza 1.6 TD. Can't remember the whole registration.

Nah the dpf brings up the light but doesn't shut off the throttle pedal, he scanned his too and it came up with the tps fault. His light was flashing.

Yours the glow plug light might come on then you take it for a good blast down the motorway to try and clear the dpf, regen so to speak.

Mine's a Silver Leon so not your's Minxstie.

It doesn't appear to have a DPF and I was informed by the Ross-tech website that there is a greater chance off it being the Lambda (o2 sensor) than the TPS, but can I find the bloody thing. I assume it should be the same as most cars a screw in 2-3" piece with a wire off it!!

I did however read somewhere that not all Diesels, so I wonder if mine is one off them.

Anyone know if a 51 plate 1.9tdi leon (90BHP) has an O2 sensor or even come accross the same issue as me.

What also would be really handy is a wiring diagram for the car, but I have found one yet :(

Thank you so far.

If yours is a 51 plate it's a mk1 and it will be the tps or wiring and no dpf, just a simple cat and no lambda at all.

Most likely be the tps itself, it happens on the mk4 golf too and it's the same part

Sorry just realised I'm on the MK2 section Oops sorry.

Thank you, yes its the Mk1, I managed to find a test proceedure that says check voltages between 1 and earth, 1and5, 2and earth, 2 and 3 (on the TPS loom plug) for 5 volts and get it on all but 1and5, it goes on to say check wireing between this plug and the relevent sockets on the test box (eg pin 1 and test box socket 24).

As I haven't got a testbox I don't suppose anyone has a wiring diagram for by my car please.

Thanks for the info Seatmann.

I take that as a no then :)

Nevermind, I've now order a replacment Throttle. and I might have found the pinout between the Pedal and the ECM, so once I find the ECM I can test the wiring :(

Just so you'll aware, it appears I've fixed the fault by replacing the Throttle :)

Thank you for your help in narrowing it down etc.

Hi guys, I'm new to the site and am hoping for some help on this subject.

The DPF light was alight and now the car is doing exactly what everyone seems to be describing. From reading the thread it seems as though mine may be a case of a blockage but how do I clear that with the car in limp mode? The glow plug warning light is flashing and the EML light is on. The car is booked in for a check on Monday but could I sort this problem without spending the money at a garage?

Any help or suggestions would be great?
Thanks
Lee

Then car went into limp mode, so far Ive had the dpf cleared and regen, new filter and oil, new egr(i think thats the name)sensor its had diagnostic machine on it loads of time and the additive tank has been checked. Got car home today from garage after them having it over a week and the glowplug light is back on........please help im desperate to sort it.
