Driving along on dual carriageway this evening and "bing" glow plug warning light flashes on and off, "Engine Fault, Contact Workshop" pops up, then the car stops, no acceleration possible but engine still running.

Thankfully managed to pull across from the fast lane with no incident but if it was busier could have been a different story !

Managed to restart the car but it was stuck at 3k revs with the light still flashing....

It's a brand new facelift FR, anybody with any suggestions ?! Will have to wait until Thursday to take it back to dealers sadly!

Shame after such a good weekend with the car :(

my brother gets that on his leon sport on a 55 plat and he has been told that it the throttle pedal

Confusing reading on the internet so far, as it seems to be all manner of problems when the glow plug light comes other, other than faulty glow plugs

Will now be dropping it off first thing in the morning at Seat and hope they can sort it !

Managed to get it going without the 3k rev limiter on, but it feels very sluggish, what a bizarre thing on a new car ?!

Got the car back today, they put it down to faulty wiring and a problem with the fuel injection system. They have wiped the ecu and re-installed Revo stage 1 , only drove the car 5 mins back from the dealers to my house, so won't be able to see if it's made a difference until later this evening !

Hopefully my last trip to the dealers for a while !

Update...

Got the car back yesterday morning....

Warning lights returned this evening.

This is the biggest pile of **** for a 3 week old car. Seriously not impressed not. They had the car 2 days, told me the problem was "faulty wiring" and a problem with the "fuel injection system".

Apparently fixed but exactly the same.... unbelievable !

Car going back again in the morning !

Are you sure it's not a fault linked to the DPF (diesel particulate filter). Check other threads relating to faults with this system but sounds to me like it could be the cause. Have a good read about it in your manual aswell. It may need a really good thrash to clear it out.

Not sure? thought i'd ask though as i'm sure iv'e heard people mention flashing glow plug light when the DPF decides to act up. Glad mine's not got it. :D

DPF light definately doesn't flash up !

This first happened when the car had 40 miles on the clock so can't imagine it's a fault with the DPF itself surely !? Plus... how can you give it a thrash when you can't go above 3k revs !!!!

Oh dear, doesn't sound very good if it happened that soon. I'd take it back to the stealers and tell them to keep the car until they have 100% found a fix and make sure they give you a like for like loan car. The sales people are bound to be running one as a demo.:)

Same happened to me THREE times and this third time they have had my car almost THREE MONTHS!!! They trailered it to Milton Keynes from South Wales... (Seat Ibiza 1.6 Tdi Cr September 2009 plate)

I am at the end of my tether with this.....

Taken steps to take the dealer to court now, as doesn't seem to be any other option... :(((((

Can anyone shed any light on this? I had the same problem yesterday and when I drove it to work today it didn't feel right, although I could go above 3k revs.

It sounds like the tps might be faulty or the wiring, I had this on my tdi, glow plug light flashing and no throttle. (tps= throttle positioning sensor) It's up by the clutch pedal with a short cable coming from it, work the throttle pedal while looking and you should see it.:)

Hi adevtr,

The faults with my car were all to do with the dpf system, dpf stands for diesel particulate filter. Message me to find out more..... Hope you haven't bought my car which I had a refund for after months of angst..........

The glow plug lamp doubles as the EML on diesels, which any fault with anyone of the 20-30 sensors & actuators could trigger. The fact the vehicle is going into limp mode (reduced running) does narrow it down a bit i.e. something that could have a detrimental affect on the engine is its not right. All to easy to blame DPF cos of a few vehicles have had issues but a fault on the dpf system would normally put dpf & coil lamps on.
The nature of the fault would suggest possible wiring but if you can find out what fault is actually stored in the ECU i'd have a better idea.
You say its had a revo??? have they tried it without? worth ruling out any issues there.
