Dash Cam Installation

Be careful fitting the rear dashcam. If you damage any of the clips when trying to feed the cables through the boot between the car and the tailgate you could end up with water getting i to the car.

Saying that, I got my dealer to install my BlackVue DRS750S 2Ch for me. If the boot got damaged that was their problem to sort. In the end they did a great job.

This 👆, I messed up broken both clips on my Leon. They’re really easy to snap and I was getting water in the roof lining. Was quoted an obscene amount of money to get it replaced, as it’s a pain of a job apparently. Had to glue the rubber boots down, it has solved the problem but if the rear camera packs in, I will be in trouble.

Yes Ive got a rear cam still in the box to fit. Was wondering the best route to get across to the rear hatch.
Will be interested to see how you get on!
I'll let you know - watch this space...

Things the Wyld Stallyn discovered about Dash Cam installation on Formentors:

1/. The video in post 3 of this thread is great and very informative.

2/. You will need: Various trim tools, gaffa tape, brute force (may involve some wincing) Air wedge pump tool, patience, fuse tweezers or small snipe nosed pliers, fingers of a bass player, socket or spanner set, a kneeling pad and or mechanics stool, a good torch, some new knuckles, and to disconnect the battery!

3/. IF you do not disconnect the battery before you start and 'accidentally disconnect' the airbag switch in the side panel from the loom, your Formentor 'may' throw up an airbag fault! You will then need a mate with a compatible VCDS system to make it go away.

4/. Not all fuses in modern cars are the same physical size - always keep all the 'spare' connectors from the fitting kit when migrating dash cams from your Mustang to your Formentor as the fuses are different.

5/. I used a pump air wedge tool (not that expensive and usually come with trim tools) to gently prize the glovebox pin out of the dash socket - using a little BFI to get me over the finish line, I started with the inside first and then finished on the outside. Refitting was the same but in reverse order - don't forget to refit the damper arm back in first.

6/. Put Gaffa Tape on all sharp edges your fingers or the wires are reaching through / passing by.

Don't disconnect this Switch without disconnecting the Battery First!

Good Luck 👍

Did the rear camera install today in 35 mins 👍

Decided to go Rogue n fly in the face of normal practice.
Result:
I didn't break the boot umbilical clips.
The DAB still works perfectly.
No knuckles were harmed during the mounting of the rear camera.
Parts were under a tenner.

Some may not like it but it works for me. 😁

Looks like a very good install and I don't blame you avoiding the boot wiring. Have you noticed any signal issues with the DAB radio? I have a next base rear cam fitted to the glass and it would appear I am loosing signal on some channels that did not get before. I will have to pop a Ferrite core around the rear cable and prey that stops it. It is likely due to it being so close the shark fin on the roof.

No DAB issues even though some poor signal black spots.

Try different size ferries or vary the position on the cable.

It's amazing what you can do with a double sided money clip, a hacksaw, a needle file, some insulating tape and a 40 year old drawer divider. 😁

Out of the box thinking there!
So I'm guessing you've unbent the clip to a 90 degree angle and pushed it under the head lining and stuck the camera mount to the rest of the clip hanging down?

I cut down one of the outside leaves so the loop sits flush over the lip of the roof lining. Clipped it over and then got a small piece of plastic an put it in the money clip so it gripped it and then secured it with insulating tape, a double sided sticky pad to mount the camera and stow the excess cable in the roof lining - job done.

Hi there - I have a V2 DSG and am struggling with which fuses to use for a permanent feed for parking mode and a switch feed for normal mode. My multi meter has died and I have not been able to find suitable fuses thus far. Any advice would be greatly appreciated ! Cheers

Hi

I have a next base front and rear camera to fit to formentor. Does anyone have any fitting advise especially where to wire it to? also is getting the rear cable through the boot cable tube doable on these cars?

Sorry one last question, anyone got any recommendations for a good installer? I would probably travel if it was a good fitter.

thanks :)

Hi mate bit late to the thread I fitted a nextbase 622g front and rear to my Leon cupra, the fuse box is the same and got the hardwire kit, I connected it to a 12v live so it can work with parking mode, I threaded the wire for the rear camera up the inside of the passenger and rear passenger door along the top then into the rubber seal making a very tiny slit do the wire sits in it perfectly took me roughly 40 mins to do
DAB radio I do now and again loose signal on some stations but am just trying to find out if it’s just because of the area am in.

Has anyone fitted one of these just by running wire in edge of trim, plugged into the 12v in the arm rest?

Considering getting a nextbase but not wanting to take the car apart to hardwire.
