Well, this is turnign into a big build thread soon... It seems to burn a bit of oil first start in the morning after a fastish run the night before, I had hoped this was turbo seals. but with the new turbo, its still as bad. Now, its fine if driven gently, wont burn a drop.

So looks like i'll be Building up a stroker, will get this mapped, and run it until it pops whilst building a 2.1 :)

*PLANNED SPEC*
2.1 bored and stroked 20vt
using IE Rods and Pistons
New 1.9D crank
Every single load bearing bolt replaced with ARP
SMF and probably a bigger clutch again.
Probably GT3071, or, I might keep the 2871r as I really like how it drives, but a bit more off boost torque wouldnt go a miss.

Gearbox will be treated to a full recon using diesel gearing and a quaife.

shame about burning oil, but you won't be disappointed with the stroker.

edit. I think a stroker on a 2871 will be too big of an engine on a relatively small GT turbo in its current format? How about a HTA turbo like mine? Have a word with bill about the spool. We used the word EPIC quite often.

I'll have a chat with Bill whilst its being mapped. see what direction he reckons. Its really odd the smoke, as its alot, for about 10 seconds, then nothing ever again.

thinking about this, i susopect it could be the oem oil drain not being man enough for the 2871. as driven in low rpm i see no smoke, prolonged (3/4000rpm) will see it splurging oil smoke out afterwards on idle. I'm thiknking its seeping past the seals. so i'll get a new one made up and see where we go from there.

Had a eureka moment this morning.

Basically, the burning of oil is due to the turbo not being 100% on its orientation, and therefore when i parked on my drive last night, it made the angle for the oil drain even worse (20-25* from centre, when itss around 18-20 due to the oil feed being too high and close to the inlet flange) after a quick phone call to Bill to confirm my thoughts, we have concluded that the turbo is Pooling.

Plan of action -
Im buying another car on saturday as a daily runner, so the miles can be kept off the LCR. at this point i shall drop the turbo off again, and clock it. And also replace the 90* JIC fitting with a banjo and restrictor.

No, turbo just needs clocking to the correct orientation. School boy error tbh. But something I over looked because it looked fine, but then thinking about it, that because I had the engine tilted :doh:
