Dan, I just read this thread and your car is awesome.
I wondered how often you have changed your fuel pump cam follower running the uprated fuel pump? I have a similiar/same engine in my Mk2 Octy vRS and understand that the fuel pump follower is a weak spot.
thanks.

Major Update

Had the Car in to Jabbasport's for some upgrades.

Had:

-Peloquin Torque Biasing diff

-Snow Permance boost cooler water/methenol injection kit.

-Intergrated engineering Connecting rods:

Turned out to be a very interesting visit indeed.
When the replaced the rods, they found one of the standards rods had a slight bend in it! So lucky I changed them when I did.

Picture of normal rod and bent rod.

Really not quite sure whats going on with that. APR have never seen anything like it with thier turbo kit. The tune is at the safe limit for the rods.

After the installation, there were dyno runs done to tune the W/M kit in. This takes its reading from the MAF and starts injecting at a certain boost level according to the pots on the control unit which can be adjusted. I am using a 50/50 water meth mixture as that is what snow performance recommend. The mixture is squirted just before the throttle body, just enough time to vapourise. They have used the washer fluid tank in the car to keep the OEM look and save fitting another tank. This is still good to use to clean the windscreen.

Jabbasport also modified my air intake, as the current location of the air filter was too exposed the elements, completely gunking up one side of the filter which was located behind the fog light grills

In the picture you can also see the snow performance control unit.

During the dyno runs, the results wernt really what was to be expected. The Water/meth seemed to work great in increasing the power. but the actual graph was producing very strange results regardless of meth on or off.

Below shows what was happening.
graph1.jpg

As you can see there was a massive toque spike power wise, peaking at 421hp and a bucket load of torque. Never have really been sure what it was like that.
I spoke to APRafterwards and done lots of logging etc, and all results came out ok. so completely bemused on what was happening at Jabba.

After a fair bit of logging, I started to get more and more misfires, especially when the car was full of people. It was decided that I should get a new set of injectors from APR in the states, as well as new software to accompany it, as I was still running the APR stage 3 beta files.

Yesterday went up to Awesome, and had new injectors installed - the same ones as the 655whp car in the states, as well as new software programs, notably a 98RON and 104RON race fuel program.

Had a few dyno runs and all looked ok:

389hp.jpg

The above graph was without the water/meth turned on. So looking for a fair bit more power with it on.

Current work in progress:

Weight saving - Santa pod coming up, so taking plenty of bits from the car which weight anything before the day :) I have the power, so now need to reduce the weight.

Brake cooling ducts - Last weekend i modified the fog light grills and built a flange from fibre glass behind them to hold some hoses. I have purchased some 90mm hoses and will work out where to go from there. Have not yet decided what to do at the brake end, may build some brackets to bring the hoses near the dics.

Thats all for now. Made a few purchases recently, so they shoud be here tommorow, so another update coming soon!

Thanks for reading :)

Very impressive Dan.

Did you have all this in the back of your mind when you bought the car many moons ago? Or has it just completely snowballed? :D

Either way, I do enjoy a good read about it :)

Well when i went to AMD recently they quoted when I said "I wont really be modding it" three years ago :p

As a thought, If I use the race gas program with water/meth, Im predicting as much as 440hp at the crank. Need to get it dynoed proper though.

New update, good and bad news today :)

Got my set of trackday tyres.

Hankook RS2 Z212 235/40/18, unfortunately the new rims havent turned up yet. Should be ideal for some grip at Santa Pod :D

On the way home tonight I broke down

Car started misfiring permanantly, so had to pull over to the hard shoulder.

Had vag-com on me and was reporting ignition coil short circuit, as well as the misfired.

Sat there for a while to cool the engine down to investigate, then a RAC van pulled up behiond, luckily I was a member :D
Removed cyl 4 Coil pack and the hole was full of Water! Completely clear water!
Clean it up and went off on my merry way without any further issues. No wonder the inigiton coil was complaining!
Have absolutely no idea why, looked all properly sealed etc..

Time for a new coil pack I think though...
