Just got the car back after having the cylinder head gasket replaced under warranty (on its last day in warranty !). The garage said they had never had to replace one of these before (due to it being faulty) and my car has done less than 30k so its a bit of a surprise. I have always had to top it up with oil (once every 6 months) but I just assumed that it was due to the type of driving I do (lots of short journeys) and I don't recal anyone else having one of these go.

What happened when it went?

It didn't go. They noticed some oil on the back of the engine during the last service and said they would like to investigate it further. I'm assuming that I got a bad gasket as it has always required topping up from new.

You sure it was the cylinder head gasket rather than the rocker cover gasket? As i have a very small leak coming from that!

They initially thought it was either the cyliner head or the rocker head, but told me today it was the cylinder head. I'm assuming that they have replaced both anyway since presumably the were both taken off to determine which was faulty.

my old ibiza engine is slightly damp on the head gasket line.... (its on an engine stand at the mo so I can see it.)

did'nt stop it producing 340bhp just before it was removed tho.
