Sorry if I've just skimmed over the thread and this was already explained, however...
As a soon-to-be recipient of a Cupra 280 - a lot of these mileage figures sound worryingly low for turbo's to need replacing. What's to say it won't need replacing again in a years time?
Or are we definitely talking about a specific batch of turbo's which are no longer in circulation? (and therefore won't end up being a replacement part)
Turbo number was 06K 145 702 N for anyone interested New turbo currently being fitted so hope to have it back for end of the day or tomorrow morning will check New turbo number when I pick car up hope it's revised turbo it was shipped overnight to Belfast from Germany
it will be a new 'un, can you ask them for some sort of report as to what excatly happened to your old one? make up something like you are concerned for your safety about this happening again or something else, just so we can see something from the UK acknowledging a turbo has failed.
Mechanic said it was excessive play in the impeller shaft and that the part will be requested back but very unlikely to hear anything back but he will try and find out more.New turbo number is 06K-145-722-A
What I read in the German AudiS3 forum all that had a turbo problem had same issue as you have.
Impeller shaft broken or too much play (would break eventually).
The failure reported about the batch of IHI turbo's from April/May was not this failure, had to do with faulty gaskets.
Well the new turbo is at least the latest revision.
I'm sure my turbo was that same Number that "supposedly" blew and I have yet to have a problem, with near 3000 miles now. My dealer who is one of the better ones has not contacted me about this fault.
Well, mine was at 5k when I got it, am now on 11,500 (yep its a starship mileage vehicle) and been driven hard at times, and so far, no issue. the only irritating noise is the sound of the damn audio symposer.
Well, nearly five months on and most of us with Cupra 280's have a few thousand miles on the clock and not one of the "regulars" has had a problem............
Well as said then only 1 batch IHI turbo's from April had problems so can well be that it is a minority because these were fitted as well in AudiS3, Golf7R and Cupra.
2 weeks ago in German S3 forum one reported a failed turbo with a broken impellershaft.
Since June I think they reported there about 5 or 6 failures not forgetting that the amount of sold Audi's and G7R are 20 to 30 times or even higher than sold Cupra's in the UK.
And engines come from the engine manufacture facility all equal so one can't really tell where the ones with faulty turbo's were send to.
All engines S3/G7R/Cupra are to the last bolt identical.
Exactly and it is to be seen if there are in the end differences at all because the majority of Cupra's been tested on a rolling road had all between 295 to 305 Hp and some a little more.
It wouldn't surprise me.
