Just intrested what would happen if a remapped Cupra R went up against a standard Astra VXR. Ive heard VXR'S are much quicker than remapped Leons but thats all heard from 2 Astra GSi owners?

LOL the guy that I bought my Leon off of is buying a Astra VXR, granted the Leon isnt a Cupra, but thats the reason he sold the Leon, for a Astra VXR so they must be quicker

Most likely at work
i took out an astra vxr at the 1/4mile drag strip at crail, got a good early lead from launch and held it to the end. dont know if he was remapped though.

i know an astra owner and hes mapped his to about 290bhp and hes too scared to have a run with me :cartman: so thats good news i guess.

on a side-note, unbiased views on the two cars are that the leon has more of a 'road presence' than the astra vxr so thats a plus :D

What would happen do you think If I raced a VXR im pushing 268bhp at the moment would that be enough to match a standard VXR?

Remapped Cupra R all day long. 237 bhp, 236 lb/ft Vs 267 bhp and 300lb/ft from Stage 1. (Recorded at P-Tourqe after remap)
I do like them tho, and not slagging them off, but with all Vauxhalls they end up far to common.

Jus do the maths. Standard vxr 240bhp. Stage 2 mapped lcr with some goodies. 270. The vxr may be abit lighter but not 30 bhp lighte, so lcr all the way. Infact when i first got my lcr it was standard and i raced a astra vxr, th vxr was faster but not much. And i had people in my car and the astra havin just the driver?? People hear what then want to hear i suppose. But a mapped lcr would beat a standard astra vxr imo

a better comparison is remapped vs remapped, kind of unfair comparing standard vs modified lol

Thats true, Iv had a do with a remapped one, only Stage 1 tho, and it was neck and neck. I think its down to the VXR having a more agressive map as standard, so Stage 1 doesn't have such impressive gains compared to standard against the LCR

Il give you a better comparison. My non mapped Cupra R use to do very well against my mates Astra VXR. 2nd gear runs at 30 and go and we would be close until fourth and then I would wave bye. Standstill they move more but when we were at santa pod it was only around half a second difference. He doesn't have it no more and has a Subaru STI so not going to be a great comparison now is it........ha

astra vxr's are 240bhp standard. and they have aweful torque steer as well bad wheelspin.

henjo, you'd have no problem with a standard vxr, assuming you know how to launch your car.

I stand corrected :) you'll have no wories then ;) lol I might be able to give them ago when I get my boost leaks sorted :)

Ive raced a astra vxr which had all the goodies, i.e fmic, full exhaust and a map to suit. The driver said it was 287bhp, cant remember who he said mapped it and im pretty even with it when we both have a play tbh. He said his PB 1/4 mile time was 14.01@101mph and mine is 13.92@103mph :) I must admit, i see the way people drive cars and think to myself i could drive it so much better, i guess i just know who to drive my car properly, i.e using the power well and gear changes etc. For example there are cars which technically should be quicker than me, but because i know how to drive my car well, my car seems quicker than what it actually is to these other drivers :)

i got destroyed by a vxr nurberge edition... but i was in my old stage 1 LC at the time... iv seen vxr's since having the LCR but they seem to leave me alone and get out my way, then again so do most of the "boy racers" here lol bar a carolla T- what ever they are, he found out the hard way why i get left alone lol

i think it would be neck and neck standard/standard IMO 18 bhp is virtually nothing. The VXR has dreadful handling straight out of the box. The leon isnt a naturally great handling car, but its miles better than the vauxhall shite. Dont forget you are comparing a car born in 2002 to a car born in 2006, of course the VXR maybe more advanced but the leon has it licked in the looks department, plus better brakes as standard too...and i actually think the vauxhall interior is more dated than the mk1 LCR.

I have had a VXR in front of me before thinking he was all badass. I let him play with himself for a while, and i got bored of looking at the thing so left him, and he never had a chance. I know he kicked down when i did, cos he squated, maybe im just a better driver lol

A friend of mine has a VXR, it handles well and it's quick but damn is it dog ugly and hes already had to replace the exhaust due to rust issues....

The black one? Have yet to come across a focus st or vxr that is quicker than yours brad tbh.

Never understood the hatred for the astra VXR's they're not a bad car at all,

everyone seems to jump on the torque steer/Understeer bandwagon since JC said it,

technology wise the VXR has 6-7 year on the LC-LCR.... in reality a well set up vxr with decent mods will tramp a mk1 all day long,

where as in relation to the MK2 leon it'd be a dfferent story,

I think a lot of people havent driven one and circa 240 bhp though the front wheels has always been a bit skittish... i honestly dont think it was a chassis/ geometry issue with the vxr, more the way the power is actually delivered causing loss of traction,
