was built in coventry, pretty sure production ending some time ago

as for reliability, some of u probably havent ever owned a 206 so unless u have please dont bash it, none of the 'my mates got one...'

206 was up there with the best selling peugeot models (would have to check my statistics, but think it is top) might be common, but i assure u that the ibiza cupra has just as many rattles and has an interior made of the same crappy plastics that the 206 has. if u dont believe me then seriously go out to ur mk3 ibiza (assuming u own one, otherwise how can u comment?) and touch the seat trims, the dash, the door cards

in the 2years i owned my 206, nothing went wrong...iv owned my ibiza for 12 months, and iv replaced a cv joint, bottom rad coolant hose and a number of cheap crappy trims that were scratched to **** or had just snapped off

i only keep the car because of its looks and its performance. if i wanted economy, good standard performance in handling and speed, reliability...id av bought a Honda

I agree about not really being able to comment unless you have had one (goes for many things) but i think sometimes you just know what you like and dont like

I would not go for a 206 but if gordybaillie wants to then he should! I think writing a thread like this is bound to flare up some different opinions

Its difficult to compare a certain car with peeps individual experiences of them

I had two Novas and whatever anyone says about them i got on good with them, i was young and it was affordable for me at the time! I am now on my second cupra and would buy one over any other car any day, where as other peeps just wouldnt touch them

I think every car has it ups and downs and unfortunately what could go wrong on one may not go wrong on another but it doesnt mean that car is bad overall, its could just be that specific one

Yeah with time every car gets rattles and wobbles, thats just the way it is! The best way to answer your question is to have a look in the Parkers guide ;)

We can all discuss experiences but its you whose got to live with what you choose. Have you ever had a pug before and was it a good car? or is this just because its available and you can kinda justify it?

Indeed, I agree.

But, I have had Pugs (my wife has had a 206) in the past = problems.... aint doing that again, if anyone asks my opionion on them, I will tell them what I think of them. At the end of the day, its upto the individual what they choose, based on the info they have at the time.

obviously in batches of thousands theres always gonna be some rotton apples. I agree with comments regarding french quality and reliability as a whole, it is pretty shocking, and for some models, it does seem to be getting worse.

my opinion is pretty obvious since i own an ibiza cupra and not a 206...but had the 206 GTi 180 been built with forced induction, i probably wouldnt be on this forum

im not sticking up for the 206 though, no-one can deny french cars do have a tendency to break, but as mentioned the cupra is hardly loads better

if u dont believe me fine. but at some point, monitor the mk3 section and take a look at how many posts are made about broken mafs, boost leaks, broken clips, scratched interior door handles and my personal favourite 'theres stains all over my front seats?" lol

well my mums got a 206 quicksilver 1.4 and must say its the biggest crock of **** ive driven, the engine is flatter than a witches tit:lol: and the handling.... jesus its really bad, understeer like its got no wheels , and when ur on the motorway it dont feel safe as it rocks about because the suspension is like a sponge. i mean the 206 gti really isnt fast either, ...i dont think the 206 ever lived up to the 205 gti:whistle:

I have only had my cupra about a month now and im afraid im not really impressed with the handling etc of it.
Also i have just got a new job which is gonna involve alot of travelling so the Ibiza isnt the most economical car.

Anyway my Cupra is a 2002 - 02 plate
30k miles
Full service history
Few mods (listed below with all receipts)
Onvi Yellow
Black wheels
Alpine TV/DVD headunit custom built into centre console

And i have been offered a straight swap for a:
2005 -05 plate 206 quicksilver
1.6 16valve
Spax coilovers
Forced air induction kit
Powerflow full system exhaust
17" gti 180 alloys
16k miles

So what do you guys think, should i swap, obviously use may be biased towards the cupra but i need to think of how much both cars will be worth in a years time when i go to sell them etc.

Thanks for the help

Mate i had a 206 gti 2litre 16v 138 bhp version before the leon and trust me if you not impressed with the Ibiza you will hate the 206!
Take it from a owner, the 206 is WA*K and i wont mention the build quality!
peugot?? never fu*kin ever again!!!!
