I have only had my cupra about a month now and im afraid im not really impressed with the handling etc of it.
Also i have just got a new job which is gonna involve alot of travelling so the Ibiza isnt the most economical car.

Anyway my Cupra is a 2002 - 02 plate
30k miles
Full service history
Few mods (listed below with all receipts)
Onvi Yellow
Black wheels
Alpine TV/DVD headunit custom built into centre console

And i have been offered a straight swap for a:
2005 -05 plate 206 quicksilver
1.6 16valve
Spax coilovers
Forced air induction kit
Powerflow full system exhaust
17" gti 180 alloys
16k miles

So what do you guys think, should i swap, obviously use may be biased towards the cupra but i need to think of how much both cars will be worth in a years time when i go to sell them etc.

Thanks for the help

I think Cupra will be worth the same as the 206 in a a year as Peugeot resale isnt as good as the Seat. If your not impressed by the Ibiza I doubt a 206 will float your boat but its all down to preference. I find the Biza ride abit hard compared to my old Golf Gti but then its 15 years newer lol!

Sounds like a fair deal tho

So the handling isn't good, even with the H&R cup suspension kit..?

As a deal, it sounds ok, but not to sure if its out of the frying pan into the fire....

206s are very nice, comfy, modern cars, had an XS (1.6 8v 90bhp) before the cupra

handle slightly better than the ibiza standard but a new suspension set up and the ibiza can be just as good/better

at present id say the pug is worth abit more than the ibiza, but in a year or so the ibiza wouldnt have devalued as much as the pug

the pugs got 110bhp standard, with the mods i doubt its over 120bhp, where the ibizas good for 200bhp-/+ for under 500quid

1.8T wins on performance, as for mpg doubt the pug be that much better tbh

cheers guys, good debates there but still hard to decide lol
Seems like a good deal tho i think as if i see a car i like next year then i think i will get a much better trade in on the 206, selling a car privately can be soo much hassle!

i dont where ppl come from when they say the handing isnt very good on the ibiza cupra, mines on standard suspension but bigger wheels. and i came from a 205 gti that was lowered and i have to say i think my ibiza handles better. thing is in the 205 it felt like ur actually going faster becoz its made out of tin foil when actually u aint, i think the ibiza holds the road much better in my opinion.

perhaps it was the suspension set up on the 205, cos a 205GTi is one of the best handling hot hatches ever made?

the cupra isnt that bad as standard, but its nowhere near great, very twitchy, lots of roll, quite bouncy but still quite crashy

and its only gonna get worse on bigger wheels!

if the mpg is 'bad' on the Ibiza, you could learn to drive it in a more forgiving manner. smoother, slower, partial throttle, short shifting.

Lower powered car - you'll need to rag the bollocks off it. (do they have load based ecu's?)

Re: handling - sensible adjustments can be made, tyres, tyre pressures are all things you should check.

there is no competition there ibiza all the way, the 206 is built so basic and tackey where as the ibiza is strong and stirdy plus the 206 will be stupidly hard to sell on unless you trade it in with a garage but then they will try and offer you as little as possible

My mum has a top spec HDi 206 and it looks quite sporty etc.....but the amount of hard black tacky plastic in the inside is horrifying!!! Its got the lot, sports seats....alu trim etc.....but the main dash is the same as the base spec!!

As said you'll reg the balls off the pug to keep up with everything and use more petrol......drive the cupra smoother, save of fuel and still hump everything else....

The cupra is far superior......

Think of how many 206's you see driving down the road....then how many cupras......

Money wise, if your keep the cupra it won't depreciate much, the 206 will but you won't lose money.....

Sounds like your mum has a 'friday afternoon' car....

I was just thinking.....my burd mum has an HDI too

Wheel bearings, shockys, tappets, rearview mirror, airbox, aircon have all broke/fell off or worn......

ABS comes on when you touch the brakes too and the discs have warped in the past........if they don't warp the squel like a bitch too...

Hers is a 54 plate

i do drive my cupra sensibly, take it easy on way to work etc but do about 50 miles a day!

The 206 has had the 180 disc breaks added to it all round aswell

Still cant decide lol

Think i would get atleast £6500 for the 206 in a years time, what do uze think?
Its under warranty till march 2008 aswell.
