Hi,

Apologies if this has been discussed or covered before.

What does a turbo muffler delete do? Does it literally just improve the sound of the turbo or does it offer any kind of performance increase? I've had a quick read up on it, and it just looks as if it improves airflow?

Reason I'm asking is because I've been offered a barely used one for less than half the cost of one a brand new one...

Thanks

From what I gather, the muffler acts for the turbo like a resonator does for the exhaust. It breaks up the air to "muffle" the sound. So the delete is basically a pipe that lets the air go straight through undisturbed. So it will change the sound coming from the turbo. And as the airs not disturbed I guess it will get through a bit quicker. I have no idea, but I can't see it adding more than single digit bhp if anything at all.

That makes sense, thank you

To be honest I'd be tempted to get it just to get a little bit more turbo whoosh if nothing else!

I'd be taking the warranty into consideration before doing this (i presume from your picture you have a 300). Its likely to invalidate the warranty on the turbo.

Just for completeness here is the extract from the Revo site with pictures of stock and delete item.

I would also advise you to declare this on your insurance and if you did decide to go ahead keep the old one so you can always revert to stock.

Thank you.

My insurers are going to love me. I've just declared the Stage 1 which I had done last weekend and lined their pockets a little more in the process

My only advise on this is if you get charged for each change then make one change with all the stuff you plan to do during this insurance period, that way you don't have to keep going back and adding stuff.

I was thinking about the turbo muffler delete but now I’ve read that I might not bother! Doesn’t sound as though it’s worth all the hassle for the little gains it gives you.
